This week was a blast! I heard a rumor of a very productive abandoned mine not far from Cerro Gordo, so I decided to take a hike!

ALSO - I wrote a book! I have been working on this for almost two years now and I am SO excited to finally announce it. I put my put my heart and soul into this thing and really dug deep on making sense of these past 3+ years living up here. The book has all sorts of new stories, insights, and history of the town. I think it’s the best content I’ve ever made.

If you've ever got anything out of this channel, I hope you'll consider pre-ordering the book. It is a HUGE way to show support for everything going on and would mean the world to me.

Dude! That old timbering outside the collapsed mine should be put to use inside the new hotel! Imagine having legit 1800's timber from an actual mine inside the hotel!
  • Congratulations Brent! You found what most every explorer dreams of, a long lost mine no one has seen in a century. Lots of luck in what you may find next. Take it slow and easy. Be safe!

It’s incredible that you’ve been here for almost 4 years and still find new stuff All the time. So much history at Cerro gordo!

Brent, I'm always worried when you take these hikes and wonder if you're going to get stranded overnight without gear. Be careful buddy!❤
  • So thrilling to step into a mine no one's set foot in for years! Always exciting to witness these historic discoveries with you. Every portal is like a doorway to history.

I’ve been climbing for 15 years and would consider myself a strong climber. I’ve sent multiple 13’s but typically hover around the 11-12 range and wouldn’t even consider climbing up those walls without gear and a partner. Never underestimate a highly featured wall. I’ve seen some gnarly accidents and lost a friend to a similar situation. No matter how confident a climber you are, you’re only one mistake from death. Stay safe out there and thanks for the amazing content.

Wow! I really enjoy when you take us along on a hike. Between the scenery, the history, and the added bonus of seeing you find your target mines I didn't know what I liked more! I'm so glad you are getting to live out your passion. Thank you for letting the rest of us tag along! ❤
  • When hiking in areas were indigenous people previously lived I look for areas that I find pleasant where I'd want to hang out and then look for artifacts like arrowheads and such. Found quite a few arrowheads and tools in this way. The indigenous people have much more history than the minors in these areas. And both histories are very interesting. I think the native Americans along the Sierras spent the Summers at higher elevations where it was cooler and of course in the winter would go down to the valleys where it was milder. Great content!

You are living a dream Brent. Instead of working your whole life to aquire stuff that doesn't really matter, you get to DO amazing stuff every day... that brings fullfillment, joy and a passion for living.. I only get to take trips to do stuff like that, you get to live it daily.. Thanks for another great video. Peace
  • I really can not imagine being a miner back in the day. Producing and moving a ton of good high grade material has to be so much work in such a small and confined area. Very impressive men!
  • @sailingspock
Proud to have been a part of the volunteer team !! Give my regards to everyone please Brent !!
  • Your excitement finding the mines was like a kid on Christmas morning. Lol. Fantastic find. Good for you. 👍

I've been watching this channel since 2020 and everytime you go on these awesome hikes, it inspires me to get off my backside and get outside myself! lol but in all seriousness thank you for what you do, such a great channel! The last few seconds of this video made me wonder if you do any astronomy or if there are any types of plans for an observatory of sorts (within reason). The location seems great with a high location and dark sky, seeing the milky way must be a great experience every night and having a telescope would make it even more of a excellent experience!
  • @berndm9743
Those were some VERY exciting mine entrances you found there Brent. That one big mine looks really awesome for future exploration.
  • @stephenwweber
Thank you Brent. Love the exploration of the land and minds. It's a good mix. I can't wait until next time. My dogs and cats usually always watch with me. It's very relaxing. I need that. Thank you.🐈 🐕
