Published 2022-02-22
Hi Neighbours, I hope you are all having an amazing week!! Two of my besties and I thought we would do some copy cat recipes. I put my recipe for Wendy's Copycat chili below. I had fun making this and picking up Wendy's chili to do a side by side taste test. I hope you enjoy the video and if you like it leave a like and a comment and if not already subscribed I do hope you consider subscribing and help my channel grow. Oh links to my friends are below too.

NOTE
you will need a large pot and this can serve like 12 people

Ingredients
2 pounds or 1 kilogram of ground beef ( I used lean cause that is what I had)
you may need a little oil to fry your meat if it is really lean
2 stalks of celery thinly very thinly sliced (so they add flavor but melt away into the sauce cause I don't see them in the sauce )
2 small or one large onion diced small dices
2 large green bell peppers diced
3 large tomatoes diced small as well not tiny but small
3 table spoons of chili powder
2 tsp of ground cumin
1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper
2 tsp of minced garlic
1/4 tsp of pepper
1/2 -1 tsp of sea salt
3 tsp of sugar
2 table spoons of tomato paste
1 can of diced tomatoes 796 mls or 28-29 oz can
1 can of red kidney beans. 796 mls or 28-29 Oz can
( some say leave liquid of the can of beans in and some say no so I will leave that Orr up to you 🤗)
1 can of pinto beans 796 mls or 28-29 Oz
2 cups of beef broth

Method ( I basically cooked everything over medium heat until I needed to simmer)

Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat if you need oil for your beef. Press ground beef into the hot oil to form ; let the bottom brown, 7-9 minutes or so don't break apart the beef too much so it is like chunks of patties in the pot. Stir breaking the ground beef into crumbles and large bits and cook until no longer pink, about 5 more minutes.

Stir celery, onion, add all your spices mix through for like 30 seconds to bloom the spices. Add tomato paste mix for about 30 seconds to a minute add green bell pepper and tomatoes into ground beef as well and cook about 5 minutes; pour in your can tomatoes, and beef broth. Mix well and scrape bottom of pot to make sure you are getting all the bits if any in the pot.

Mix kidney beans and pinto beans ( with their juices) and simmer partly covered stirring about every 15 minutes to make sure nothing is sticking to bottom of pot. simmer for 2-3 hours and you will be amazed at the results

Hop you try and enjoy if you like Wendy's chili

I grew up in the 50's and 60's eating my mother's chili. I was amazed when Wendy's chili came out and tasted exactly the same. Watched her make it several times. Brown the ground chuck with chopped onions, add 2 Tbsp Gebhardt's chili powder, can or two of chopped tomatoes, can or two of tomato sauce, can of kidney beans.
  • Out of the several Wendy's copycat recipes I've tried to make this was definitely one of the easier and better tasting recipes. In my side by side comparison to real Wendy's chili, however, I didn't think it was all that close of a copy. The main difference was in the meat flavor. Wendy's recycled burger meat adds a distinctive flavor which I still have never been able to recreate at home and unfortunately none of the copycats offer much help toward trying to. This recipe also has about twice as many tomatoes, peppers, and onions as our Wendy's has, and in my opinion would be better with less, but that's a personal preference.. So go ahead and make this very tasty and easy to make chili recipe with the confidence that it should be a hit with the chili lovers in your family but when you really want the Wendy's flavor, still gotta go to Wendy's.

I sweat the veggies down in butter, then add hamburger. Chop it all together, once browned add canned ingredients and seasoning and DONT forget the sugar and salt! Add about 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • This made me crave Wendy's! 😆 I love to order a cup of chili and a baked potato when it's cold. Your version looks spot on!
  • @EternalRedROSEs

I make this recipe. I use canned/jar of extra mild of sweet/banana peppers and one green bell pepper. I mince the banana peppers by cutting them on my cutting board. I also use the juice in the can in the mix.
  • Indeed there is Celery in the Wendys chili. Just really small and gets hidden with the sauce. Yours looks amazing.
  • Thanks for the recipes, I made it, taste Exactly ike the Wendy’s chilly.
  • I get Wendy's chili from time to time when I don't feel like making it at home lol it's at home lol I usually have to doctor it up a little bit but I do like it. You're chilly seems like I have way more vegetables than I've ever gotten from Wendy's chili looks good
  • Hi Jerri ❤ looks great, thanks for sharing your version. Wendy's also has the best chili oil packets that go into their chili. Lots of people don't know about it, cause you have to ask for it. I know here in the states, they chop up hamburger patties and put them into the chili. We also use the juices from the beans, always have. How fun to get your husband to taste test. A fun video. Tfs ❤ have a great day 😊
  • @OneHotBite
