The nicest thing Wells Fargo ever did for me was automatically close all my accounts when I moved all my money to a better bank.
  • Thank you Ramit. I am 58 and my whole adult life i had B of A, I read your book and I left. Thank you Ramit.
  • Bank of America asked us to lie about info on a mortgage application. We got up and walked out!
  • Ramit, can you do this type of video for credit cards? Exploitative ones and some good ones

As a former WF and BofA customer no lies told here.

It’s not always a choice to deal with Wells Fargo. If you finance a house or car, a LOT of the time the loan gets sold to Wells Fargo without your consent (but they can sell your loan based on your agreement). Wells Fargo is terrible. I had a car loan (which got sold to them) once where I found out that even if you overpaid on your car loan each month to pay it down faster, they would simply hold the money and apply it to the following month, making you still pay all the interest and not paying down the loan any faster. I would never voluntarily deal with this bank.

I only have an online bank. Low costs, i do everything i want on my own. In Germany, with these "traditional" banks, you pay 10€ a month, just to be a client and when you save money with them, they give you nearly nothing in return.

You can also stick with credit unions, they’re MUCH more competitive in both APR’s and APY’s and are the biggest reason banks had to get in line and start changing their practices, ESPECIALLY when CU’s started opening up their field of membership and making their charters national (vs. a local/state charter)

I live in the UK. UK banks don't charge fees for having a normal current account. However my daughter worked in the States one summer and was appalled at how the account her employer set up for her at - you guessed it: bank of America! Nightmare. Glad you gave them a negative shout out, Ramit
  • My husband read your book a year ago and told me we needed to switch. I was the person that had Bank of America since college thanks to the keychain who was saying it's too hard to switch...and now you've officially guilted me into switching. We picked ally since we already have our emergency fund in there. My husband hates that your video convinced me when he couldn't. Guess I should listen to him more. Appreciate the well-deserved guilt trip!
  • When I was in college back over a decade ago, I was very tight on money and one time I got my bank to single digits in my bank account. Bank of America charged me a maintenance fee (because I didn’t have a large enough balance in the bank) and put my bank account into the negative. Then they charged me an even larger negative bank fee that was pretty significant at the time for me as a working part time college student. I never forgot that and called them to close my bank account immediately. It literally costs money to not have money in this country.
  • Credit Unions are the best. I can do create multiple accounts. I have 4 of them. I can bank via my cell phone or online. I switched back in 2011 from Bank of America who was just ridiculous. I have not had issues since.

SoFi FTW! No fees, the most savings buckets out of anyone I've seen, and very good apy

I left Bank of America when I was in college. The overdraft fees were absolutely ridiculous and killing me. $30 per charge!! I was calling every month to get it reimbursed. Left them and switched to Capital One and Ally. Years later I’m still getting random settlement checks from Bank of America. What a joke.
  • Thanks to your book, I ditched BofA after more than a decade and became a happy Capital One customer. No regrets!
  • My wife and I move around a lot, so we have our main account with Chase. Then wherever we go, we open an account with a local bank if there isn’t a Chase branch nearby. It’s a solid combination!
  • I’m so happy I dropped BOA this month 🎉 I already have an Capital One 360😊❤😊
