Issue with Fanatec CSR firmware 756

Published 2013-01-29
(EDIT) After talking with Tech support this is considered normal operation in both GT5 and Forza 4, and is not the wheels fault. I will say there is significantly less issue in iRacing but I find it strange that a wheel designed to work with Forza (and Forza with it) would have such issues irregardless of fault. (EDIT)

This is a video showing an issue that I still have with the Fanatec CSR wheel with firmware 756. I have another video showing the same problem with an older firmware, but in that video I was driving in a way to exaggerate the problem, this video is a full lap, trying to show how it effects "real world" game play.

FF 100, Sho 100, and all others at 0 or off (accept ACL).

Watch for how the wheel returns past center after quick adjustments, making be counter steer against it.

Yeah that was with the first batch of CSR wheels made. Since then 706 is the default setting. They have fixed that problem with it. There has not been one firmware that has worked without bugs apart from 706. Fanatec need to stop using us as testers and release a decent one. Although their returns service is very good.

I reverted back to 706 and still have the same problem... Beginning to wonder if something is wrong with my wheel, since most people don't complain about this.

I'm about to get that wheel Tuesday, my first wheel. Have been really excited but that doesn't look like fun. Which system were you playing on? Was steering assist on?
  • @IrocZIV
I always race with all assists off, and have since tested with different settings that lowers the strength of the off center returns, but its still very noticeable (I turned Spr to Off not 0). I get that effect on all systems I have (PS3-GT5, PC-iRacing, Xbox360-Forza 4) The wheel is a huge improvement for immersion, I actually think the pedals are even a bigger deal though. It really makes it feel more like driving a car, though they do obviously have some bugs.

Tried putting damper to negative settings, unfortunately it didn't solve my issue. I did find that if I put Spr and Dpr all the way up, the wheel didn't go as far off center on return, though with those settings it becomes quite a work out trying to drive.

Ya I still have this issue, supposedly its the games fault, which I must admit the effect is much less apparent in IRacing as opposed to GT5 and Forza.
  • @IrocZIV
yep, makes you competitive in forza since with the controller you can push the clutch and shift button with one finger.

Pgtune92, I have the same problem, I don't have game play issue, but when I initially turn on the wheel it does its calibration but instead of stopping on its center point it move left and right until I physically grab the wheel or connect to xbox or pc
  • The problem I'm having is after the updating the wheel the FF is stop[ping the wheel from turning. Got drift at 5 Spring at 4 and Damper at -4 but it still doesn't turn.

i got firmware 756 and got no problems with gameplay only that when i'm turning the wheel on it moves from left to the right till i connect it to the xbox ore pc

Hi, i had this prob on pc , try changing the damper settings. I think a -1 should do the trick...

Mate it really is better you go back to 706. I have tried 740 and 756. All good but do come with consequences. Had to return the wheel back twice. Until it is an Alpha upgrade, leave the Beta alone.

Ya the paddle shifters work great....
  • @IrocZIV
didn't the 706 firmware cause a strange buzzing while connected to the XBOX?
  • @jamnjoe19
