4 Set Ups for The Ankle Pick Takedown in BJJ & Wrestling (These Work on Everyone!)

Published 2024-01-05
The Ankle Pick takedown was one of my favorites to use as a College Wrestler, especially as a heavy weight where people had heavy feet and less ability to scramble.

With that being said, it's a takedown that works well at all weight classes.

Early on I learned you could take anyone down with these.

Fast, strong, big, small, doesn't matter. This is one of those takedowns that is so smooth that, if timed properly, have almost no ability to be defended against.

That's why I've always loved it.

I was mostly inspired by the likes of Cael Sanderson, Kyle Snyder, and David Taylor growing up and that's why I got pretty good at these.

I love these for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu too. Their pretty low risk and if you fail to hit them, it's quiete easy to recover. I'd say it's one of the more risk free/safe takedowns for BJJ for exactly that exact reason.

With that being said, hopefully you found these 4 set ups helpful!

Been enjoying your content recently. Keep it up, I utilize a lot of the tips you share! Carlson Gracie Plant City - Blue Belt
  • Islam Makhachev did it with Dustin that lead to submission. He know Dustin don't expect it! Dustin must be just expecting normal shoot the single or double leg.. . In his fight with Charles Olivera, he don't get the take down from shoot single or double leg, but he get take down from some judo throw from cline.
