"The Hitchhiker" [remastered] ORSON WELLES - SUSPENSE Radio's Best Episodes

Published 2017-06-11
ABOUT THE Hitchhiker: This is Orson Welles at his best . . . This guy REALLY WAS a creative genius. The Hitchhiker (written by Lucille Fletcher) was done previously on his Mercury Theater, and 20 years later became a well remembered Twilight Zone episode. Now, 60 years after the Twilight Zone, and 80 years after the Suspense broadcast, here's The Hitch-Hiker with the audio all cleaned up and remastered to near perfection! While listening, you'll have to remind yourself that it's an 80 year old recording from1942! These shows were performed live, and we're lucky they had the foresight to record these. Think of the tens of thousands of hours of programs back then that were broadcast just once . . . then gone forever. We missed some really good stuff. After the program you'll hear a pitch from Orson Welles for U.S. War Bonds, which paid a damn good return! We'll never, ever have such original and creative entertainment like Suspense. There's almost 900 episodes that still exist . . Like any series some episodes aren't very good, but you won't hear those on my channel. I'm uploading only the best stories here, always in the best sound quality!

Imagine tuning in to listen to this for the first time. This was the original feeling of waiting for a new season of your fave Netflix show to drop
  • Orson must have been in his early/mid 20s here. I'm always amazed at how commanding he was at such a young age.
  • Thanks for presenting this. I'll bet 99 percent of people think "The Hitch Hiker" was original to the Twilight Zone. Hats off to Orson Wells, Rod Serling and most of all, Lucille Fletcher, dthe writer.

I wonder what made 50 people dislike this because the story, audio, voice acting, and everything is great about this! At least there are more positive comments than the number of dislikes.
  • “A lot of people asked us to do it again, so it’s gratifying to get the chance just to do it again, so it’s gratifying to get the chance just to do it again”

What a fantastic example of old time radio. Excellent acting. Excellent music.
  • This episode recently surpassed 108,000 views, a number I never expected from any of my uploads! Even more remarkable, is that our channel has over 3 MILLION total views . . . Thanks to you!
  • I'm looking at doing this as a pandemic theater piece at my school, so thank you for this.
  • What an amazing story, thank you again. Orson's voice makes the hairs on my arms stand on end. I love how his voice changed from him speaking during the intro to how he "drops" into character. Amazing. The audio quality is fantastic too. Thank you.
  • This story is super cool! i'm glad my ELA teacher introduced me to these broadcasts, definitely subscribing!
  • Yep. That conclusion gave me goosebumps. Orson delivers every time. Also - the warning against the working class being reduced to slave class as we're seeing now under Democrat rule. The IRONY.
