I picked up a chromebook plus from costco for $300 a couple months ago. Great little machine. Highly recommend for those with modest computing needs
  • chromebook plus is starting to interest me. Thanks for the new features update.

I love Chromebooks! I just wish the charging system and the trackpad were more robust.

I have been installing ChromeOS Flex on non Windows 11 laptops with 120GB SSD for cheap from Amazon then donating them with my Local Rotary club.

Hey Lon!, Thanks for posting this video

I purchased a used Acer 516GE (1st Gen) that I've now owned for several months and I was able to get the free 12 months AI Premium Plan. So you don't need to buy a new Chromebook. Any existing Chromebook Plus laptop is eligible. In fact, the 516 GE wasn't even a Chromebook Plus model when it was first released a year ago. It was deemed a Chromebook Plus by Google well after.

I always told you Chrome would include a maple syrup brother that confuses his tech brother with tech plus syrup stuff.

I'm a fan of Chrome OS, but the change in Manifest v3, which reduces the functionality of ad blockers, is a real blow. Additionally, if there's no opt-out for the AI, that's a deal breaker for me. I'm very sorry to see the AI frenzy take over all of computing.

Google is charging $19.99 a month for the AI features, you only get them free for 12 months with a new Chromebook Plus purchase.
  • @ernstoud
USD 240 a year after the first year? No way.
  • My only real reservation with Chromebooks these days, which have been getting really interesting, is what Google Chrome has done with manifest V3. Because the mobile versions of Firefox are the only ones available on a Chromebook and they don't run nearly as well as you would want in a desktop setting. But there are no desktop versions of Firefox. So now you're stuck with chrome but ublock origin loses a lot of its efficacy and functionality because of the changes to manifest v3. It's a shame because if I was choosing to buy a Chromebook that would probably be the biggest annoyance... Am I not going to be able to run the proper ubo? I hate the fact that Chromecast such a huge market share and I, I'm kind of bummed out that Firefox stopped making the desktop version of the browser on Chromebook.

........ TEXT transcribe works on non-plus Chromebooks too,,,,, maybe re-check what is special to ..... Chromebook plus . I think the magic photo stuff works with the android photos app ,, on mobile and Chromebook,, if your using google 1 storage ???? .... remapping keys is also a feature of non-plus Chromebooks too

caption does not seem to work very well...LOL 6:23 in the video. thought it did English...LOL
  • What's the purpose behind these companies such as Apple and Microsoft who are so slow to implement such basic features to their products? Something as simple as a laptop having a touchscreen in 2024 is pathetic and not being able to use a USB controller for a game on a laptop? I don't care what kind of laptop it is if you're having to deal with annoying little trip ups all the time.
  • @curbsidetech
Too bad these improvements are not coming to Duet 5.
  • @darkjedi213
Jif?! I'm hovering over unsubscribe 😂. Nice video. This makes the Plus models a little more worth it. Unfortunately in the k12 space, they are not obtainable in bulk at MSRP. I got quoted $60 over from cdwg.

AI will have arrived for me when I can tell YouTube to remove every use of the words “actual(ly)” and “itself” from the audio of every video I open!!! I once heard a guy say “I put the actual lens on the actual camera itself” and my brain nearly broke. 😂
