  • If anyone has two parents who have both earned a Ph. D from University of California, Berkeley, that person definitely has an upper-middle to upper class background. Thus, when looking at Kamala Harris' background, it's also important to take into consideration class as well as race differences that the Democratic Party has historically emphasized. Accordingly, Ms. Harris may not have "white privilege", but she certainly had the upper-middle to upper-class privilege.

Many slave owners raped their slaves and had mixed offspring who were also enslaved. Being a descendant does not mean a welcomed part of the family.

what difference does it make, we should not pick a president because of their color or race but for their competancy

Africa has thousands of ethnic groups and that includes over 250 in Nigeria therefore, the world has thousands of ethnic groups
  • The ignorance about genetics, ethnicity and history flying around the political discourse is truly astonishing. Thank you for this

i'm decended from fairly recent immigrants, i'm of nigerian paternity and ghanaian maternity with some taureg ancestry. i agree...knowing exactly where your family originally came from makes a huge difference in your sense of self. 🇳🇬 🇬🇭

This comment section really proves that race is a social construct. Apparently it doesn't matter how she sees and identifies herself, everyone made their own decision in which box she should belong.

America has a warped view on race, anybody can be considered “black” even if they don’t have any African ancestry.
  • @danielkoroma578
You still haven’t told us where Kamala’s father heritage came from. You said he was born in Jamaica and studied in the United States.
  • @lilianflynn198
Why is America emphasising race and ethnicity in the 21st Century !!
  • Race and ethnicity versus lineage? Claiming someone else's lineage to further ones ambition is a problem.
  • @TheKeefeStone
Is harris "considers herself primarily black", why was she celebrated is "the first Indian congressperson"? This is why I am Human from Earth.

Hello, I'm Indian. Her mother is from the highest caste in India, a Brahmin. She comes from a place of ULTIMATE privilege, there 5 hierarchy of castes in India. She belongs to the top-most, her ancestors were the partners of the British Empire, Britain ruled India with help of these Brahmins. Most Brahmins supported the colonization.
  • All I got from this video is that we should drop the one drop rule and make a category for mixed people
  • @pamelagayle8854
Kamala Harris is South Asian and Jamaican. Dr. Shyamala Gopalan Harris raised her daughters to identify as Black and embrace their Indian heritage. That does not mean one race is favored over the other. It means society assigns race the way people look on the outside.

Just skipped right past the father’s parents to the grandparents… deception from the gate
