China’s Pan Zhanle backed up his world record in the relays with a victory all his own Thursday, while American Claire Curzan became the first swimmer to claim two individual gold medals on a starring night for teenagers at the World Aquatics Championships.

The 19-year-old Pan won the men’s 100-meter freestyle at Aspire Dome, four days after swimming the fastest two laps in history with a time of 46.80 seconds in the lead-off leg of China’s gold medal-winning 4x100 free relay team.

He didn’t go quite as fast the second time around, but it was good enough for gold. Pan touched in 47.53 to stamp himself as one of the top contenders heading to the Paris Olympics.

  • All those swimmers being rude to Pan should look at that moment, you can’t break it but Pan can do!

I love his “celebration”in total silence. No hand pumping, yelling, screaming….really taking it all in calmly👏

The Chinese swimming team received urine drug test 7 times a day in this Olympics. A human being can at most pee 7~8 times a day. The US and Australian swimming teams receive far less tests, while almost all of the US swimming team are "asthmatic"... This is ridiculous and disgusting.

In the past, it has often been the US and Australia competing as the traditional swimming powerhouses, now we welcome China too. The US and Australia not doing so great, having been intimidated and humbled by China. Check out China's great professionalism and sportsmanship. No crowing, bragging antics. No air guitar. Coolest ever!

Wow. China not only beat the West in Technology but also best them in Sports nowadays 👌.
  • Did anyone question or challenge Michael Phelps’s dominance in the 2008 Olympics? NO they only celebrated it. The only reason they are upset about Pans dominant win is because of his race and country of origin, China!

He looked so calm after winning.... As if it's just a piece of home work done

He must have really good technique because he doesn’t look that tall or physically weird like most swimmers. Gives hope to us shorter people that we can learn how to swim fast too 👍

Congratulations to Pan, also nice to see Italy take Ag. That lead off by Pan the other day however was epic! There’s nothing like the spirit in a relay that can get the fire in the veins blazing (Lezak)

In an interview with reporters, he said: He was not satisfied with the result of breaking WR's 46.80, and said that he could do it even faster.
