Mazda has changed the suspension and transmission of the CX-60, which partially address the criticisms raised in this comparison. We've tested the upgraded car. Watch here: https://youtu.be/VbuddI3tJIE

The CX-60 looks stunning in that blue. Not surprised Mazda will fix the suspension. They’re known to make improvements to each update which was how they perfected the CX-5 over its lifetime.

Big fan of both mazda and lexus, but I just feel lexus is more refined! Have a RX350 from 2016 , 8 years later zero problem and its still rocking the original Panasonic battery.....

Strange that Mazda released such an important car with these shortcomings.

After we filmed this video, Mazda announced that owners of early CX-60 examples could visit their dealer for a free suspension and transmission calibration upgrade. We will be testing that upgrade later this month, though we have reason to believe the upgrades are reasonably minor at this stage. For this comparison, we could only judge the cars in front of us.

I got the CX-60 in summer 2022 in Portugal. They did two recalls as well as four new dumpers and extra insulation on the doors. The improvement was substancial.l. Still I believe the Lexus would still come on top. Anyway during the 25K I drove the car I had no glitches or any kind of issues. Is really fun to drive with the 4WD in sandy places, traction control is really good. Mine is a PHEV and charge at home. Occasionally I need some gas.I hope Mazda can refine the suspension and transmission a little bit more. As I am coming from a VW Tiguan this is luxury for me.

Next time, please do a CX90 vs Cullinan comparison video.

What a perfect comparison. These two cars came on top of my shopping list.
  • I think the main take away from here is that LEXUS is $27k more expensive than Mazda. Considering a massive price difference and a very small difference in dynamics Mazda is actually not bad. Also, if we compare apples to apples it would have been better to compare turbo 4 popper to a same drivetrain on a Mazda and compare fuel economy. I would say 2nd iteration of Mazda CX60 should be considered. 27k is a huge difference imo.

Nice review, Tom, as always. Your analysis is spot on. Driven both cars and I can say this the Lexus comes out on top everytime. I was a bit disappointed with road handling of the Mazda and the gear box needs a bit of work too. Road noise cancellation is superb on the Lexus. However, personally, the interior layouts on the Mazda premium range, Takumi, with light interiors is a bit more appealing with a simplistic layout. Lexus, we miss our beige interiors. Lastly, once you drive and own a Lexus, other cars just seem to fall short. Trust me, whenever you drive a Lexus it always manages to put a smile on the face.

How are you doing this? I was just considering both. Thank you .

Honestly, a honest degree of comparison, I become your subscriber,😊.I left the carexpert that reminds me of carwow of the UK..

Great review, really detailed and well thought out. Much appreciated.

I thought it would make more sense to compare the CX-60 to the NX, and that’s what I actually did and decided to go with the NX350 F. I test drove the CX-60 Azami when it 1st released and the build quality feel really good, however like it mentioned in the video, the ride quality just doesn’t feel like what a $80k+ car should be. And I spoke to one of the mate did the test drive on the same day who also paid deposit and he wanted his money back 😂
  • @jdmguy44
Im not sure this is a fair comparison. Here in the UK the CX-60 gets compared to the Lexus NX rather than the RX in road tests.

I've had my CX60 diesel since November last year averaging 5.6L/100k mixed driving and down to 4.5L/100k highway.
