This HEAT is NO MATCH for THESE Plants!

Published 2024-08-05
The heat-loving plants are just exploding with the recent heat wave in the Missouri Ozarks. All of the basil plants are bursting and some of them have become overgrown. Today I take you around to harvest basil for pesto and sun tea and show you how to cut back basil to invigorate it for another growth spurt.

Our pesto video is here:    • Basil to PESTO! From Plant to Plate.

***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****

Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.

We put out new videos every week! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

Chickens love basil and basil flowers. So when I have enough to share, i give my birds a treat.
  • I didn't know my basil plants were still good after they flower!! I thought they were done for! Now I know just to cut them down & let 'em re-grow! Thanks Sara!

I've never grown cinnamon basil. Using it to make tea sounds like a great idea though. Thanks for the harvesting tips 😊
  • I have never had good luck growing basil UNTIL I grew it in a greenhouse this year. I'm growing lemon basil, and it has been amazing. I will plant more next year. I'm just cutting it to dry and make into a powder for future casseroles, soups, etc.
  • Thank you Sarah for the great tips and information about the Basil! Especially the reminder that it makes wonderful tea. Blessings on your family and your homestead Kiddo! 🌻🐛🌿💚🙏💕
