Pissing Blood: The Ketamine Time Bomb | High Society

Ketamine has become the generation-defining drug for young Brits.

A report from November 2020, stated one in 30 young people admitted to taking the drug in the past year – the highest number since records began and far more than other countries in Europe. The latest figures also suggest that ketamine is now the fourth drug of choice for young people behind cannabis, ecstasy and cocaine.

There is a certain cognitive dissonance at the heart of Generation K: On the one hand, we see it as a silly, wonky horse tranquilliser. On the other hand, it is literally a horse tranquilliser... A horse tranquilliser that can make you piss blood.

As it has grown in popularity, so have bladder injuries and addictions. In this report, Matt Shea gets deep into the UK’s Generation K, and finds out how a party drug can go too far.

I remember saying, ”Everyone uses drugs” while using them, and then I realized I only hung out with drug addicts
  • I had a daily ketamine/cocaine and alcohol addiction that was wrecking my life. I got sober at the Providence Project treatment centre shown in this video - I will be 3 years sober in a few weeks and owe my life to that place 🙏
  • To the man who snorted a gram of Ketamine and a line of coke. I genuinely wish you are alive and well.

After watching Vice´s drug documentaries it really solidiefies my stance in that drug dealers have absolutely no clue on what they are doing or on how drugs work.
  • I love this interviewer. He has such an empathetic approach that seems to really help the subject of the documentary open up and speak freely. Every doc I’ve seen him in has been excellent.

Lived in a house with ketamine addicts. Hearing them screaming and crying as they peed was a horrifying reality. I couldn't believe the amount of pain they were willing to go through to get high.

I was a Ketamine addict while living in India (my pharmacist/chemist would sell me pharma vials of it for $5 USD a piece). The SINGLE MOST PAINFUL experience of my life was when I had K bladder. I'm a man and have a high pain tolerance BUT would sit crying on the toilet while pissing chunks of blood and eroded bladder matter. I still have anxiety and nightmares of this randomly occurring again even though I haven't touched Ketamine in over 3 years. It is an amazing psychedelic experience, BUT you can become addicted to the dimension travel and the K-hole itself. DO NOT MESS AROUND WITH IT. BE RESPONSIBLE IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE IT.

I used to have a ketamine addiction. I was hanging around a group that could see me getting worse. No one said anything about it until one New Years, I said I need to stop this year. I got laughed at and told I couldn’t do it. After completing the year sober from it I stuck up a middle finger to the group and I’m no longer part of it. I used to get cramps after a few pints or a bump, but now I haven’t touched it in nearly two years

This is sad. I take IV Ketamine medically for CPTSD and Depression with a doctor in Washington State and it honestly has changed my life for the better. Drugs have the ability to heal people but they can be equally as harmful, especially without medical supervision. I have experienced a plethora of horrible side effects from many different antidepressants, while on the flip side I receive medical marijuana which helps a ton with my pain, as well with my occasional Ketamine boosters every 9 months, so I know drugs aren’t all just black and white like some say they are, though that also doesn’t mean they can’t just as easily be abused and harmful. Hopefully one day the worlds governments will learn to focus more on studying, decriminalizing, and regulating substances rather than demonizing anyone who uses them. Maybe then there wouldn’t be things like “Ket Bladder” and drug cartels wouldn’t be able to distribute products cut with unknown often fatal adulterants all for a quick buck.

Depression haunted my life from a very young age, and I was put on a bunch of SSRIs as a child in attempt to deal with it. None worked. Psychedelic mushrooms was brought to my attention. It was the first thing that actually had real effects. They should only be used with great care and respect. 0:19

Speed, coke and ecstacy were the majority of early 2000s for gen X, ket came about a little later and we dipped in but it's weird to see it take off like it has. It's not exactly a social drug which was pretty much the entire point of it all back then. Really hope the chap with the habit is doing better, my heart goes out to him.
  • @vegansk8rgirl
i really like how impartial all of these documentaries always have been, never telling you what to do, never throwing any labels on users but just providing an unbiased and objective observation of the world of drugs and how it affects people and the body. been missing these vice.
  • @clared5812
Ketamine is not my drug of choice, but this doc is exactly what I needed rn to stay sober. Thanks for making this.

    • DMT is a naturally occurring hallucinogenic drug with spiritual and cultural significance in indigenous cultures.

I feel so bad for the K addict. You can tell he’s a good guy and he just can’t quit. He needs help.
