On the London Underground, I used to buy a ticket to Mill Hill The Hale, a station that closed in 1939 (it was the one after Mill Hill East) and used it on the bus. The facility only lasted until the track was lifted for the M1 to be built in the early '60s.

You've had this idea for three years and were waiting for 2024 to make the video because "20" looks better than "17" in the title. We know YouTube trickery.
  • @QuantumPulsar
Going to stations that you can't even get onto is literally a pointless journey lol 😂 especially if the £2 bus fare cap is valid for the buses then there's no point buying train tickets to the stations as it'd be cheaper getting a bus ticket!
  • @martxw
There really needs to be a rail replacement barge between the stations, of the canal was the shortest route!
  • Norton Bridge, Stone, Barlaston and Wedgwood were served by a single unit shuttling between Stafford and Stoke, the service was withdrawn because there was nowhere to put the unit out of the way at Stoke and the cost of improved trackwork was not justified. Norton Bridge was an island platform accessed by a footbridge, this became unsafe so the station was closed. The junction at Norton Bridge was rebuilt as a flying junction so moving the track away from the existing platform. Services to Stone were reinstated when the Birmingham to Liverpool service started. Wedgwood was for pottery workers to travel from Stoke.
  • Oh, we have the opposite thing in Switzerland! We have a trainstation where trains stop, but you cannot buy train tickets to that station: Sagliains in eastern Switzerland. It's because, it is only an interchange and you cannot enter or leave the station by foot.

I never travelled there - but I purchased a ticket online on the last day British Steel Redcar station was open, from Redcar to British Steel. I still have it on email.

These two stations Wedgwood and Barlaston still have no service , services to Stone got reinstated and Norton Bridge was officially closed .

I bought a ticket from Anderston to Balloch in 2020 and was surprised to see the ticket was for Balloch Central, a station which closed in 1988. Balloch station replaced it to enable the level crossing in the village to be removed.

You entered into an express contract. If you payed for your ticket on the bus, that would be an implied contract.

Always support a local tea room!

In the Netherlands, you can buy a ticket to the never served station Heerenveen IJsstadion, I haven't tried if and how it works out tho....
  • @anerdtravels
My neck of the woods! Our canal is generally rather pleasant to walk along, just a shame you didn't get chance to properly experience World of Wedgwood.
  • @dirty_mac
God I couldn't even get bus drivers to take PlusBus where I live. How do they have such knowledgeable drivers in Staffordshire
  • There is also a closed station 'Tilbury Riverside' which the tracks are covered by road, where it still uses Rail replacement since 1992

When the backup systems become the normal operating systems. That's one of the problems of redundant susyems as it removes the incentive to fully repair the original system. They really should include some form of insurance to pay for repairs with their redundancy plans
  • @ReubenAshwell
Brilliantr video Nick, I've been through these stations on a train a few times, hopefully at least one of them will get reopened in the future.
