Why Starscream Was Replaced With Blitzwing in Transformers Bumblebee. When fans finally got to see the announcement trailer for Bumblebee we were beyond excited. For the first time in years were going to see the Transformers in all their G1 glory on the big screen. As opposed to the overly complex designs from the Michael Bay films. We also thought we saw Starscream in action until it was confirmed that it was actually Blitzwing. The first trailer to include Cybertron scenes featured Blitzwing among Shockwave's Seekers. In later trailers and the final film, he was replaced with Starscream. The treacherous Decepticon was even gonna have a speaking line where he yells die Autobots. Apparently the director Travis Knight wanted to feature Starscream in a fight against Bumblebee. However, the duplicitous seeker was omitted and replaced with Blitzwing. This was done because the producers insisted that it wouldn't line up with the 1st Transformers movie.

A staple of the Transformers is that random character names will inevitably be slapped onto unrelated characters.

Of course that´d be the reason... and the funny part is that it´s a total fail of a Blitzwing. If they had given any other seeker´s name, it´d be fine: Nacelle, Sunstorm, Ramjet, Space Case, Red Wing...

Real reason why he’s called Blitzwing, the name needed to be reused. And this seeker needed a new name.
