Both Miyagi and Kreese (the Cobra Kai sensei) are combat veterans, but they took very different lessons from their wartime experiences. Kreese displays a cutout of himself in uniform at the door of his dojo trying to show how tough he is, Miyagi never mentions his experience even though he won a Congressional Medal of Honor. Miyagi was not only the bigger person, but the braver soldier.

I saw this in the theater when I was 9, and when the final kick happened, the audience erupted into cheers and applause. This is considered one of the most iconic movies on the 80s.
  • The best reaction I’ve seen to this movie! Instant subscriber. The look on your faces when Mr. Miyagi revealed the true purpose behind Daniel’s 4 days of chores … absolutely priceless. Keep up the great work!

1:30 Ladies and gentleman, the unsung hero of this entire franchise. The guy who made it all possible and who set it all in motion and changed the lives of countless people forever: Freddie Fernandez! If he hadn't been behind that gate at that exact moment, NONE of this would've happened.

FIRST MUMMY, NOW KARATE KID??? Y'all are watching my entire childhood ❤
  • Johnny’s backstory is told in Cobra Kai. It is sad and it’s heart warming how that series allows Johnny to heal from all his wounds.
  • It was an abrupt ending because the opening scene to 2 was supposed to be the ending to 1. They cut the scene after training them and decided to have the actors come back for the 2nd movie and film it.
  • Fun fact: Mr. Miyagi's karate is based on moves found in Goju-ryu. This particular style not only focuses on striking but also some grappling and throwing that you would find in judo and jujitsu. Kreese's style is based on the Korean style of Tang Soo Do, also known as "Korean Karate". Also, Pat Morita's stunt double in the teen fight scene was world renowned karate champion and expert Fumio Demura who was a role model for many action stars like Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal and Pat Johnson (the referee in the movie).

One of my favorites! I spent a year in Japan partly because of these movies. In the next one, off to Japan. Pat Morita was a stand-up comedian before this and he also a role in “Midway” about the WWII battle, the younger sister movie of “Tora!Tora!Tora!”. I think it is the definitive film about Pearl Harbor. Ralph Macchio also starred in “My Cousin Vinny”, a hilarious comedy. Nice reaction.

People always think that Daniel is younger because he is so small, but he’s actually 4 years older. Here’s their current ages Daniel 61 Johnny 57 and Ali 59
  • I remember one thing about this movie. When it came out, everyone wanted to have a Bonsai tree :D It's pure nostalgia and Mr. Miyagi remains one of the best characters ever created. Fun fact is, Daniel and Johnny have been good friends ever since (in real life). Also, I'm totally IN for Cobra Kai reactions (even though you might've do it as a binge watch, since especially first seasons are short). Cobra Kai is one of those extremely rare examples where the follow up story is even better than the original and they did an incredible job with implementing the old story for a new audience and what they did with Johnny (as a main character) is Masterclass of writing. You will LOVE it and I can't wait for it :DD
  • It's called muscle memory. Repetitive motion. He taught Daniel defense. I love Daniels look of disbelief/revelation of what happens when Miyagi has him go through the moves wax on, sand the floor, paint fence, paint house. This car was actually given to Ralph from the producer. He still has it and it makes an appearance in Cobra Kai. It is a 1947 Ford Super Deluxe convertible. Wonderful reaction. You think this movie has heart Karate Kid II has even more.
  • @havok6280
Worth noting: Miyagi's wife and son died in an internment camp while Miyagi was fighting for this country...
  • You guys are SO sweet and SO genuine. I'm loving these reactions - can't wait for more. Elisabeth Shue (Ail) is a lead in the fantastic 80's movie Adventures in Babysitting. It's a super fun movie to watch with an incredible soundtrack. Would love to see a reaction to it. Cheers from Canada! :)

Im crying. Watching this as a child it’s nostalgia rewatching it with 1st timers like yourself. We all need a Mr. Miyagi un our lives. RIP Pat Morita

Doing menial chores to test a student's patience and to develop strength and muscle memory is a standard trope in Asian martial arts movies. The ones that stick with me the most are from a movie (the title of which I can't remember) where the ensemble of main characters go to the Shaolin Temple to learn kung fu. One is put to work in the kitchen stirring giant vats of noodles with a long pole, and he becomes an expert in staff fighting. Another is put to work stoking the furnace using his bare hands to tear chunks of wood into smaller pieces to feed to the fire, and he becomes an expert in the tiger claw technique. If anyone in the comments recognizes those and can tell me the name of the movie, I'd be grateful. I remember it being a pretty good movie and would love to look it up so I can watch it again.

The revelation of the purpose of the waxing and the painting had impressed me so much when I was a kid that this scene remains one of my most memorable moments in cinema. Whatever I do, I always take the time to perfectly master the basics because I consider that this painful moment is an investment that will pay off sooner or later. I often think Karate Kid played its part. Mr Miyagi instructed me 😎. But I would never have seen this movie again without this community. I really thought it was for the kids and I had moved on. Another great classic that I enjoyed seeing again thanks to you 😀.
  • I've never seen your channel before, but I'm so happy you're watching it, and hope you continue on in the universe. This series is so incredibly special to me and I hope you guys enjoyed it. You did a wonderful reaction.
