Given this was a face vs face rivalry, it was crucial to have a great heel like Kurt Angle to be able to throw in the mix. He played an important role here.

I witnessed all of this, week after week. It was a great time to be a wrestling fan. Greatest rivalry ever. Stone Cold turned heel to get to the top, and it was a bittersweet ending to an all time great storyline.

Angle played such an unappreciated role in this rivalry. The way angle took bumps was like a 30 year veteran. He had only been in the WWF(E) for 1 year at this point. I loved it especially how well he took being thrown over the top rope.

What’s insane is that this match at Wm 17 between Rock and Austin whove had two of the biggest pops had a match that almost felt like a sequel to a perfect ending if there was one for wwe and what’s ironic is that wcw’s Monday nitro aired for the last time a week before Mania, as if this match symbolized their triumph and victory over wcw

As a kid watching this I never truly appreciated enough what I was experiencing back then but was truly blessed to see such great shows on a weekly basis and it's imo wwe at its absolute peak and never to be seen again sadly
