Time to give the GT4 back and collect my Abarth 124 spider. The Abarth 124 spider is definitely nothing like the the GT4 but it is cheap and cheerful to run. Its also great fun to drive a slow car fast and because the abarth 124 spider is cheap to run it gives you so much fun for the money you pay for it!

  • True, most fun I've had was with my first car, Fiat Panda 100hp. Litle horsepower means you're constantly on the limit without actually breaking the limit, now that's fun. 👍

Agree entirely, and it's nice to hear a YouTuber talk sense rather than just promote fantasy. Been there myself too. I bought a new Cayman back in 2006 intending to keep it forever, but after 11 years of thoroughly enjoying it, I started finding it frustrating , like owning a greyhound but never being able to let if off the leash. I sold it and bought a new 1.5 MX5, a car in which I can actually use the throttle and the revs without so much fear of losing my licence. Sometimes less is more!

I love my Abarth 142 spider purchased it at age 21 still got it now 23 had a new head gasket but a beast of a rear wheel drive car for the London roads

Great content. I completely agree that "The Abarth 124 is all the car you will ever need". The GT4 is amazing, but lacks the full engagement and fun on the public roads you get from your gorgeous afordable Abarth 124. You can't take the roof down on a winters day for a start 😂
  • @anqmiz.9523
They don’t even make the 124 Spiders anymore, makes it more of an exotic than any Porsche of the moment 😊
  • @gcosmos960
Great vid Stef, at the end of the day it's all about priorities. I prefer an Abarth and a house in a Greek island Vs a Porsche GT4. If I was 50 with all finances shorted and available cash for fun, the GT4 would be great addition to my collection. Enjoy the rest of the lockdown :)
  • Had one of these in Tenerife driving the volcano roads, amazing fun and because the roads were so tight and twisty it was all the power you needed.

"its better to drive a slow [special] car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow" Could not agree with this sentiment more. Its for this reason that my first car was a Alfa 105 series 2000 Gtv. The fact it appreciated in value was a very nice bonus.
  • Driving a slow car fast will always be better. Have enjoyed the GT4 vids mate. Hope you get the chance to drive the new GT3 when it drops. Stay safe ✌🏻

Thanks so much for another great vid! Regarding the Abarth's practacility you can always do what I did: Buy and mount a luggage rack onto the boot lid. I found a matte black painted aluminum one that's looking quite fine on my 124. Me and my partner go for 1 week long trips in it and it works fine. Cheers

I totally agree; a couple of years ago I rented a 124 Spider for a week and drove it in the Alps. It was fantastic and especially in the mountains the lightweight was noticeable. And the sound ... just wow
  • @johnkeenan4184
Couldn't agree more, Stef. I have an MX5 ND 1.5, running costs are cheap, but its lots of fun.Not in fear of issues costing a fortune. Only took me 35 years of driving and too much money over the years, to find a motoring sweetspot.....!
  • @sleep399
Hey there! Loved your video 😁 I was hard pressed between the 124 or an s2000 and I think I've come to the decision of 124, I currently drive a 500 abarth so the switch makes sense and something about the styling of this car feels weirdly fresh. Keep it up !
  • @SuperWolffie
I think you have a good point. To get the max out of the Porsche you are drinving like a hooligan....it will cost you your driving license or get a huge crash because the other traffic isn't expecting you to go sooo fast. But the looks of the P makes me fall in love ......tough.
  • @t.marturano6550
Thats exactly why I got myselfe a 2016 124 Abarth for x-mas..🤩. ..can't wait to drive it..
  • @ZZZWorks
You are doing right. The Porsche is a great Sportscar, but can´t beat the ABARTH . Comparing to all facts the 124 make much more fun and bring us back to the basics of fun driving. This is pure pleasure from a wonderful forgotten planet and it will never come back.
  • @ConversationWay
I have to say the cost of the car is not always an indicator of how much you'll love a car and CARE for a car.. - Love the videos Stef!
  • So true Stef, I've done dozens of track days over many years, and 95% of cars are under 15k, Clios, Mx5, Mini, etc. I have used Saabs Honda Rs even an E63 once, but mainly my Abarth witch I've owned for cumming up to five years, all these you can use 100% ( 60% E63 terrifying ) on a track day with a bloody great grin.
  • Loving the videos Stef! You have definitely got your pep back 😁 Cant wait for the next video - need to convince management that this car is just about practical enough to justify. Would also be great to see one about the options on the boot racks and whether they are any good
  • @johnmethven5955
Boot space is enough if you travel light, and if you are going in the summer not a problem as it's lightweight clothes for hotter climes. Wife and I did a two week road trip to Germany in the Spider at start of October so needed to pack clothes for all weathers, and my wife likes her clothes! Get soft fabric holdalls and you'll be amazed at just how much clothing you can stuff in the boot!
