Another blue synth on the channel! Lets take a look and listen at the Roland JP-8080 and create a classic late 90s trance track.
The JP-8080 is the rack version of the JP-8000, Roland's first venture into virtual analog. Its a pretty great synth overall but it got its place in dance music history thanks to the 'super saw' oscillator.
100s of trance classics were made using this synth, does it still have the same magic 25 years later?

The sound of this synth just triggers this primal feeling in me. Like the strongest feeling of nostalgia. This synth made my childhood.

Man I wish you did a masterclass on Classic Trance production.

"I used to be very active in the trance scene" googles "Estuera" > Jonas Steur Woah shit man, what's up!!! Always cranked your stuff on ASOT's or YT back in the day. Glad to see you're doing well. College and adulthood caught up with me. Flash forward to 2022 and I'm sitting in front of my own 8080 watching the man himself program! Cheers!

You even reconstructed the classic 90s trance music video with meaningless running and such. Authentic. Bravo;)

Does it still have the same magic 25 years later? YES!

It's sad that so much trance music has become so cheap now. This type of sound was how I was introduced to trance as a kid and loved it. I could rock out to it or even fall asleep to it. Didn't matter, I just couldn't get enough! Then it seems like around 2010 almost everyone started composing this new crap. Even artists from before then went and changed their style. Thank you for this! It brings back so many pleasant memories!

I remember going into the music store all of the time just to play with the JP-8000. I wanted one SO badly when they came out, but couldn't afford one. Around 2002 or so a friend of mine had one and wanted to trade it. He wanted the MC909 Groovebox. I said done and bought one off of ebay and traded him for his JP-8000. I still have it. Don't think I will ever get rid of it. I certainly never used it for trance despite also writing electronic music. The JP-8000 also had the ability to create really dark and interesting sounds and that's why I wanted it.
  • I never was a trance fan but if i hear it now i would like to hear trance🤣 its funny how you change your mind over the years,

Thanks for sharing this ❤I think that 1998-2005 really was the Golden Age of Trance. So many legendary tracks were released during that period: 1998, LED There Be Light, Carte Blanche, Madagascar, Greece 2000, For An Angel, Halcyon, Gouryella, Flaming June, Seven Cities, Open Our Eyes, Out of the Blue, Superstring....... Too many to mention! Loved that era. Wish we could bring it back!

Im blown away at what a power house this thing is. The sound you crave at your finger tips..
  • @Kid_Ellipsis
I hated trance back then but this sound is lovely nostalgia, but can now appreciate the euphoric feels it gives. Undeniable power that informs so much of today’s music.

God I miss the 90s. Great track! It was like being there again.
  • Iconic synth. Like it or not Roland really helped define the genre with the 8000. The rack model looks a bit sturdier than my keyboard, with its plasticky case and wobbly knobs, but both of them share that lovely blue/black/orange panel.

Armin shed tears watching this video, I love these sounds with all my heart, trance is divine music!
  • @marcelb7259
They are so many classic analog sounds in this unit. The potential is way above producing trance. Thank for the beautiful demo. Cheers from Canada.
  • @lundsweden
I still like these synths... they have a great, distinctive sound and are easy to use!
  • @ouatedephoque
I really like this kind of euphoric Trance. You made a great demonstration of this legendary synth ! I hope Roland will soon release a vsti version of it !

This video and sound brings so many memories. I was 17 in 1999, I was already into the early 90's euro/italo dance (I'm italian) and I remember hearing those new mindblowing sounds in the late 90's/early 00's dance songs. Great video as usual, always a pleasure to watch
