That pass from Jordan to Bird at the end was sweet and says it all between those two... They both played like they knew where everyone would be several seconds ahead like they had eyes in the back of their heads and intuition like no other.

This was a great reminder of what I consider the best time for the NBA. Mid 80s into the 90s. Just some of the best basketball ever played, the best players, rivalries. True old school ballers.
  • As a Lakers fan I hated Bird. He was capable of beating us by himself. I am sure Celtics fans felt the same about Magic. Two of the Greatest.

I’m glad someone is FINALLY giving Larry Bird the credit he deserves. The disrespect he gets from “Sports Media” and people under 45 is downright insulting. By 1986, a lot of people were actually saying Larry Bird was the GOAT.

The nba was so freaking fun to watch in the 80s and 90s

Whenever Jordan is asked about the opponents he most respected, Larry Bird is always the first name followed by Magic.

Just hearing "Jordan vs. Bird" gives me the chills! I remember watching them live and only wished that I appreciated what I was watching more back then!

Bulls and Pistons were never going to win a championship until Bird was injured or had to retire.

I say the same: Michael Jordan and Larry Bird are my favorite Basketball players of all time!

Regarding the comment that Jordan never had anything good to say about Bird....I saw a telecast where Jordan said he learned mental toughness from Bird....another time, an interviewer asked Jordan 'If you were coaching and not playing, and the game was on the line, who would you want to make the final shot?" Before he could even finish the question, Jordan said, "Larry Bird."

Jordan was recently quoted saying Bird was the greatest forward to ever play the game.

I've been around long enough to see the greats play since the 60's. If I could only pick one player to build a team around it would be Bird. 🐦

Kids today don't know how good Larry Bird really was. One of the greatest. It's unfortunate his career was cut short by chronic back pain.

Birds greatest asset was his mind. Mental toughness. Country boy strong.

The real rivalry was Bird vs. Magic. Bird was out of his prime and could still go toe to toe with Jordan, even after his injury. I am not picking a GOAT> I respect them all. And by the way, Bill Russell doesn't get the respect he deserves either.

Loved you review. Very fair to both these great players. Only thing to add; McHale, Parish, & Bird were just a tough combination to go up against. Maybe the greatest front three of all time.

I am just happy I grew up loving basketball and watching these two great players when it was hard to play the game. It was a battle to score against teams like the Pistons. Now they cry if someone messes up their manicured beard.
  • Pat Riley said if the game was on the line, he would want MJ to take the shot. If his life was on the line, he would take Bird.

Imagine if Bird had never injured his back how good he could have been!
