It’s been 1 year this month since I started learning piano and it’s been an amazing and somewhat life changing experience! You may think life changing is a little over the top… but for me it really is true, as this September I will become a full-time music student at University and I’m beyond excited for that!

I decided to make my own 1 year progress video, after watching so many myself before finally committing to purchasing my own digital piano. Who knows, maybe if it wasn’t for those videos I wouldn’t have ever taken that first step, which is crazy to think looking back now! That’s why I decided it was important for me to record these clips and make a video, in hopes of motivating someone else to take up an instrument, giving it there all and seeing where they can go with it too.

Up until month 8 I used Jane's piano tutorials to learn 99% of the music I learnt. She is a retired math teacher and dedicates her free time to playing through requested pieces by viewers every single day! Mostly all classical pieces have a tutorial and many popular video game, anime, TV shows and movie compositions can be found on her channel. If you really want to learn but can't afford a teacher, I think this would be your best option.

i swear if I get another simply piano ad
  • @abelgeorge4953
I don't mean to show off but after two years of practice I can play twinkle twinkle little star with only two mistakes.
  • As a veteran pianist, this is my advice to anyone who wants to learn: You must have the ‘want’ and ‘drive’ to learn this instrument. It can be personal or completely beside reason, you have to have a strong argument as to why you want to learn and not because it just looks cool, cause if that’s the mindset, your going to crash hard and abandon it faster than a dad going to the store to buy milk! Have a purpose, just a warning…. Define the type of music you like and roll with it. It’s never a bad idea to go into classical works and learning about theory and applied music knowledge, but you want to learn so you can play the music you like, so go from there! Play for the love and passion for music, not for spite or revenge. You’ll be introduced to a lot of others that will make you feel inadequate and intimidated. Every artist bring their style to the table, and that’s never something to be ashamed of. Be humble and build yourself and your repertoire. With this, you have a basic foundation for almost anything musical.

Im a professional piansit, and although I commend his skill, I simply do not belive he never had lessons prior to this. I played fantasy impromptu in my final year of college after 13 years of the piano, meedless to say its hard. Although he played it well i just have to point out that it takes alittle longer then a year to gain the skill, and it took me like 4 to 6 monthes to learn the piece. So almost half of his practice time.
  • @Medic494
Your piano got bigger over time. They grow up so fast man😭
  • I’m calling this out. The guy already knows how to play the piano and made this 1 year progression look like he learned Fantasy impromptu within a year. I’ve been taking classical piano since age 7. Took me 8 months just to play Fantasy Impromptu at the age of 15. You need to build dexterity, muscle memory, and several other aspects to play this piece that you can’t learn by teaching yourself in 1 year.
  • @MrFabiolimp
This guy inspired me to learn piano, because I thought it would be so easy and in 1 year I would be playing like him. Now I've been playing for 3 years and all I can tell is it: no matter if he is a genious or a liar, just don't expect to be playing like hime in 1 year. Just multiply it for 6 and it will be more close of what probably will happen,.
  • @jamiehay1027
It took me 3 years to actually know how to spell paino.
  • @chrissis.7192
I started learning piano with 37. After 1,5 years of practice (with teacher 30 minutes a week and 30 minutes practice every day) I just learned playing "for Elise" and "river flows in you" 😅

Going from nothing to what’s regarded as one of the most difficult pieces of all time in a year is nearly impossible. The technique that you need to perform it is not something you learn in a year. It is something that takes many years for most people. Playing it with good musical expression is even more difficult, and not only requires years of piano practice, but also constant exposure to this kind of music. It is reasonable to take many more months to learn an intermediate piece for an intermediate piano player. This guy is a really good pianist but a bad liar.
  • @crystalball020
Everyone is talking about his piano skills, but dude didn't skip leg day.
  • Plot twisted.... 1 year of playing piano After 17 years of playing keyboard.
  • @rhn6075
I almost believed this guy to not be capping, until his fantaisie impromptu performance
  • @kimchi2093
Even if this is fake, I watched this when I was 19 and it encouraged me to continue practicing. I’m now 24 and decent (definitely not playing advanced classical pieces anytime soon, but still I’ve gotten to the point where I can learn most songs I want in the specific genre I like). So I’ll say, either way, thank you ❤
  • @o3nich
It’s obvious he’s using Simply Piano because it makes you a piano prodigy in 3 weeks
  • @cali_3870
Imagine this was a simply piano ad.
  • @Sheikhy1
i’ve started learning piano using simply piano. i’m on day 2 and i’ve already started la campanella it’s such a thrilling piece
  • @JohnDoe-ym9le
I listened to this back in 2018 and it was the first time I'd ever heard the maple leaf rag. It was so catchy it's what got me into piano. I bought my first electric, then an upright in 2019. It took an enormous amount of practice, but now I can play maple leaf, entertainer, pineapple, any of joplins popular pieces. This video really got me into learning piano, so thanks for that. I never thought I'd be so into ragtime lol
