Hakeswille: “cant kill me, can’t kill me” Officer in charge of execution: “and I took that personally”

So many fantastic scenes, I love the polite backhanded compliments of the initial meeting with Farthingdale, how Wellington jokes about his book to his face and then hands it to Sharpe because he knows the lads will laugh at his ignorance "read it to the 95th after prayers" lmfao

Am I the only one who loves captain fredrickson? He’s the funniest character they’ve had ever since hogan

There have been few villains to really, really make me hate a fictional character. Obadiah Hakeswill has achieved that. Pete Postlethwaite was amazing. RIP

I can’t help but feel sorry for Kelly. Driven to desertion by being falsely flogged and cut down when his fortune was turning. At least he died a hero. Though his arc is short and sweet I can’t help feeling disappointed that it didn’t last longer. An interesting character well developed in the little screen time he got.

Pete Postlethwaite sure plays a great villain in this and the previous episode, what a proper psycho

I live in the mountains of Alentejo, Portugal, 1km from the Spanish border of Extremadura. This whole region is rich in the history of the Peninsula wars, 50 km from Badajoz. Close by are the towns of Campo Major, Portalegre, Evora and Olivenza. All garrison towns during the war. The countryside portrayed in Sharpe is so similar to here. Fantastic series.

"They call her The Needle, don't ask why." Im loving that gag more and more 😂

"don't be a damn fool Sir! Discipline is only a rabble rousing shout away from anarchy Sir!" Man I can't get enough of the dialog in this series, I miss Hogan's way of speaking but I really like the new Major. And wellsley/wellington is acted so well, I love these characters, I feel I'm doing them an injustice by not knowing the actors by name but they're all outstanding.

A shame that they brought on the finest actor in the world to play Hakeswill but got rid of Brian Cox and David Troughton at almost the same time. Hogan was a fantastic character

"what do they call you behind your back?" "Sweet William!" Both laughing and another Bromance born.

I wasn't crazy about the first episode but since episode 3 im totally hooked on this. so glad i found this series. Never knew it existed!

Pete Postlethwaite did such an excellent job portraying Sgt. Hageswill. He was such a good villain.
  • If ever a man was destined for Hell it's Obadiah Hakeswell. Though only in two Sharpe movies, he sticks out in my mind as the worst of the villains, evil incarnate.

W: "Do you think there may be something in these rockets Sharpe?" S: "Not as to accuracy Sir, but they'd play merry hell with the morale of poorly-led men sir. The sound is shocking" W: "Scared they did you?" S: "I was terrified Sir" Silence Love this exchange, filled with respect for each other and Sharpe is frank and honest.
