Jumped out of the bed, trying to figure out the correct pronunciation lol. Thank you :)

I just told my partner he was an idiot; and it wasn’t shed-duel, it was schedule! Now you’re telling us we are both right, and it’s the worst thing ever.

I am Australian, and as others on here have said I tend to follow the british rules for spelling and pronounciation when in doubt. For Schedule though I do tend to say Sked-jule since the construction is like School and since I say Skool I therefore tend to pronounce that "Sch" construction as a "sk" sound. Like Scheme, schizophrenia, schooner, schism.

Interesting titbit that a Google search on the topic might reveal; the word came to English from Old French, where it had no 'K' sound. However Old French brought it over from late Latin, where it has the 'K' sound. So while this makes it hard to determine whose pronunciation is more correct, it's clear that we should blame the French for the discrepancy. :D

At last, I found a good explanation. Officially not confused about "schedule" pronunciation.
  • Hi Max, Hope you are well and safe. Officially we use the British pronunciation in India but nowadays most people use both pronunciations while speaking and that is disseminating rapidly.
