In this video we have to get the rear brakes fixed and or replaced on the 1999 NBS Silverado. This is by far the worst brake rotor I have ever replaced. It is completely through the back side of the rotor. We have to keep this thing on the road to pull a lawn mower so we are only replacing the rear brakes. I wanted to upgrade at the same time so we are using powerstop drilled and slotted rotors. The zinc coating always looks good even after years of driving. The single piston rear calipers on the silverado have always had issues. I decided to replace the calipers with new not rebuilt calipers. I also thought due to the age of the truck it would be a good idea to replace all the brake lines. I also took some time off camera to paint the new calipers red with por15 caliper paint. Not only does this look better but it stops again. Quiet and good pedal feel. If you are needing new brakes for your 1999-2004 Silverado or sierra this is a good diy video for how to replace the brakes. Hit the Comments and let me know what you think.......

TWA Motorsports, great video it was really entertaining

Detroit squeaks 10 minutes after installation and they don't return or exchange! Also there's 2 different sizes. Like the 2500hd. Also quadrsteer is different as well

I just put power stops on the SS and had one crack, so I’ve got some Detroit axle ones for my rears now
  • I had an ‘08 Yukon that did that rotor looked like fan blades on the same rear right corner haha
  • @JB_Kustom
I tried Detroit axle drilled slotted front and rear on my Duramax and the pads squeaked terribly out the box. I replaced the pads with PowerStop and have been driving on them for 15k miles no problems so far. Rotors still look good, and no squeaks.

Power stop brakes are the way to go.. Best bang for the buck...👍
  • @DaveG1963
Wow those are the worse brakes I have ever seen. Crazy! I wish I never left hardware off and had to redo it over said no one that ever worked on a vehicle 😅.
  • @frankm8533
I don't use DA brakes anymore the rotors are trashed after 5,000 miles or less plus they squeak almost immediately and never stop
  • @jasonschell9860
I’ve had good experience with power stop. The E brake thing would kill me as I use mine every time I park from habit. That por 15 is the best. Good job on that
  • @GrizzlyWisdom
Trick I have used before when changing calipers is to press and hold the brake pedal down all the way before removing the line, this should keep the fluid from dripping constantly
  • @happytrails1963
Good video and like the idea of treating like a driver. Was thinking possibly go with something like this or a dual piston from a tahoe/suburban. Never knew POR had a caliper paint those looked really good especially when everything put together.

Be thankful you have disk in the rear! I had a last minute 600 mile trip to pull a trailer a few weekends ago. Leaving I didn't notice anything. Pulling in for gas halfway, metal on metal. Inside pad on the front right side froze. Finished the drive in. I had to pick a trailer up by noon on saturday or I was stuck until Tuesday (holiday weekend). Tired all of my buddies and nobody around. No garage to work on it and very limited tools. Likely I could have just bought a Clamp and put a new rotor and cheap pads to get back to the driveway where I could fix it. Took it a shop. 600 bucks later. I had new rotors and pads up front. The rear drums are trash though. Leaking axle seals... That is my next job on the 08. They had drums that year. Drums suck! Going to send it with new wheel bearings for the rear as well as they maybe have been run a bit dry with the leaking seals. I guess I could have new truck payments or old truck problems!

The 00-04 Tahoe came with dual piston calipers from factory that fits 16 and by 05 they just made them an inch bigger

Hey son, let's make it look good first and then safe as you drive it. Happy Father's Day 😂
