  • To be fair, if you woke up a sleeping bear to take a picture with it, what that bear will do to you far surpasses any punishment you could get on a legal front.

The fact that the "don't get a fish drunk" law was immediately followed by a "don't get a bear high" law is comedy gold

"It is illegal to handle salmon in a suspicious manner."-Literally a British law from like the 1700s that was purposely made as vague as possible to allow people to be arrested basically at officer discretion. I don't know if it was ever repealed.

I live in Oregon. My dad once mentioned that at some point in his early life (he was born in 1953), the Oregon State Legislature took the time to go through all of its laws and purge the crazy old-timey ones. His favorite was the law stating that anyone going to church must carry a rifle with them in case of a "wild indian invasion".

Maryland actually repealed the oral sex law two weeks ago. The repeal goes into effect in October.
  • As an accountant who has worked with lawyers for the 8+ years within my profession, the presentation and explanation is WAY too accurate despite my disdain.

i love how the auto chapters work fine until north carolina then it just gives up
  • I absolutely love the delicious irony of the guy who does the "How it is Actually Made" series spending hours debunking Internet bullshit and making a feature-length video about it.

SPOILERS: Here's a list of where every law stands after this video. I wanted to put this at the end but I thought it'd slow down the pacing for the build up of the finale. • As a Nebraskan I can’t believe he didn’t mention that as soon as you cross the border in to Iowa, one of the first signs on the road say “shooting waterfowl from the highway is not permitted.” The fact that Iowans have to be told NOT TO SHOOT DUCKS FROM THEIR CARS ON THE HIGHWAY is ridiculous to me and always will be.
  • @kaiserwilli
I think the frog law is to make sure people aren't collecting frogs and killing them without a fishing license, and using the excuse that they were allowed to collect them for frog jumping contests
  • @newttrain8667
As a Missouri resident I can confirm that the amount of time he spent researching that one law is more time than anyone else has ever spent researching any individual thing about Missouri.
  • If I’m not mistaken, cannibalism isn’t technically illegal in the United States, but it's nearly impossible to get human meat legally. It's so if you're in a life or death situation and need to eat someone to survive, you won’t get in legal trouble for it.
  • I actually super believe the Wyoming one, my town/area has a similar law. Laws like that are actually a large part of why modern architecture exists, if you can classify the project itself as a piece of art, then you don’t have to pay extra for art
  • @mothiestman4995
My uncle and his husband actually took advantage of that Colorado marriage thing to excuse not having any ceremony or anything to my very sentimental and somewhat Catholic gran. It's very handy, the ol' common law.
  • @leokim47
The fact that that censorship happened in a 1984 board of education meeting is so ironic
  • @Grawgs
The bear law in alaska mostly has to do with their hibernation cycles. I remember learning about it when growing up there. Apparently photographers and tourists were messing with bears in hibernation just for a dumb photo, which really messes with the animals and can cause problems if anyone happens to live near their location. There's a ton of forests along populated neighborhoods throughout major towns and cities, and it's not uncommon to see the bears roaming around from time to time without having pissed them off. They added more to the "take" definition to make sure no one could mess with them anymore.

"Ahem, behold your honor," the lawyer says as turns an open jar of pickles upside down. The jury all gasp as the pickles just fall all over the fucking floor
