I first made & uploaded this video on my old channel some 7-8 years ago, back in the good old days of 240p. So I decided to make it again, in better quality.
Rest in peace Ray Manzarek (1939-2013) & Jim Morrison (1943-1971)

The Doors: Jim Morrison-vocals, Ray Manzarek-keyboards, Robby Krieger-guitar, John Densmore-drums.
Studio albums: The Doors (1967), Strange Days (1967), Waiting for the Sun (1968), The Soft Parade (1969), Morrison Hotel (1970), L.A. Woman (1971)

  • If Jim Morrison was a poet , Ray Manzarek was a storyteller. Amazing details.

The most tragic part of this story... is how John, Robbie, and Ray kept playing and staying sharp as a band. Just waiting for Jim to walk in that door, alive...
  • @WolffBachner
Ray was the heart of the Doors. Jim was the soul.
  • A strange, mysterious end with no clear answers... It's sad, but it seems fitting for Jim.

I met Ray and his wife shopping in LA around 2001. He could not have been a nicer guy.

Ray Manzarek had one of the best speaking voices ever, so eloquent and great tonality. R.I.P

“ we just buried Jim Morrison “ “ that’s all I know man” Sounds like a Doors song
  • Ray was the glue. Glue often doesn’t get enough respect or credit.

Make no mistake, without Ray Manzarek there would not have been "The Doors." As he is doing here, he was constantly covering for Morrison's inability to stay sober or honor commitments. At one concert where Morrison was too loaded to perform, Manzarek sang the whole thing. But Ray knew the Lizard King's dark charisma was central to the band's identity. I admire him for keeping it together for as long as he did.

The Doors helped me wrestle through a very shitty childhood (wasn't sure I was going to make it through those teenage years). Jim will always have a huge place in my heart as long as it continues to beat.
  • @mateomayorga23
My heart sank when he said Jim never got to play those songs live.

I love listening to Manzarek, he's the backbone of the Doors, a genius, and a good guy.
  • @samsuzza2008
Ray was such a legend. He’s more concerned about his good friend Jim’s artistic integrity and mental health than being rock stars Really love this dialogue from him

So sad. We get lost in the mythology of losing these giant artists but forget that people lost their friend.
  • My three year old daughter loves Jim. When she wants to hear the doors, she tells me to "put on Jim." She won't go to bed unless her doors CD is playing. I have no idea why of all the music I listen to, she latched onto Jim, but I understand it. Rest easy, Jim, and thank you for sharing yourself with the world.
  • What a touching friendship. Ray and Jim really loved each other. Ray was the best friend Everybody needs.
