So I just found out the "Mach Loop" Is actually in Wales! I will hopefully make a trip to go see it!
  • The prop plane is the Beechcraft Texan T MK1 trainer. first flight was in 1998. The mach loop is not an airshow. It's a normal training site
  • One of the coolest pictures I've seen from the mach loop was a c-130 with the ramp open and the crew sitting on it holding up ✌🤙🤟. They definitely know there's photographers out there 😄

In 1984 I was an MP in Germany. We had a unit outing taking a cruise on the Rhein River. A bunch of us got off the boat and hiked up to a castle that overlooked the river. All of a sudden 2 German Air Force Tornadoes, that were flying "NOE" (nap of the earth) down the Rhein River valley went screaming past us. We were looking DOWN on them. Ya dont get to look DOWN on a fighter jet very often. Unfortunately it was 1984 and was WAY before cell phones. We had cameras but it happened so fast no one got a picture.
  • The US has F-15E and F-35A squadrons stationed in the UK. That is why they are there.

They usually fly through Mach Loop as part of standard training. They do it all the time. You need to get there early if you go because you can never park. The smaller, black jet aircraft is a Hawk and is used for training and by the Red Arrows. The prop plane is a Texan T1 and is used for flight training. The F-15s and F-35s are from RAF Lakenheath which is a US base in the UK. There's normally a lot of Typhoons, which are always impressive to watch. They're often in the Lake District too.

I think Dafydd has a semi-permanent camp on the Mach Loop. His footage is legendary.

This is all training for low level flying. We have a version of this here in the US called Star Wars Canyon out in the desert. They do the same type of training there as well.
  • @Str3loK1911
The 1st jet you asked what it was is a Hawk T2, the second one with the prop was a Texan T1, both are training aircraft. The F15's are based at Lakenheath.

See the LN painted on the tails of all those F-15s and F-35s? That tells you where they are stationed, and LN means Lakenheath. These jets are part of the USAF 493rd and 495th fighter squadrons that are permanently stationed at RAF Lakenheath.

Awesome to see these planes like this. Couple times I was lucky enough to see the EA-6Bs from NAS Whidbey running the Columbia river gorge in the same way. Beyond weird to be looking down at them.

Yes, take your boy for a show. I’m sure he’ll love it. You can’t pass it up. Free tickets and a day with dad! Memories you can’t replace.

I am active-duty US Air Force and was stationed at RAF Lakenheath from 2013-2016. These F-15s and F-35s are stationed there. The Mach Loop is part of the training for the pilots.
  • If you take your son, it'd be smart to bring earplugs or some form of hearing protection. Those Pratt and Whitney F-100 and F-135 engines don't mess around volume-wise lol. You can feel the rumbles in your chest. Its really an amazing feeling
  • @k9raven960
I think that prop plane is an a-29 Super Toscano. They are used in the U.S. and around the world for many different uses like trainer, recon, and ground attack.
  • @whiskybooze
My classmate growing up Dad was/is a fighter jet pilot and he came to talk to us on career day at school...it was awesome. I was on Flag duty so I was in charge of raising and lowering the US Flag every day. My school had two Marines come and show us properly how to raise and lower the Flag and fold it correctly.

Thank you for doing a video on this. I probably never would have found the channel on my own. I agree this is some of the best footage I've ever seen of military aircraft. I envy you being close enough to this to go see it in person. Hope you and your boy have a great time when you go!
  • @daltonv5206
I think this is the fella that caught the Nighthawks doing a loop in the U.S. Absolutely EPIC shots
  • @98765zach
Closest I ever got to a military aircraft in action was when I was working downtown Houston and for some reason an AH-64 Apache came roaring it’s way past the tower I was working in, just about head height with us. That was pretty sweet
