Today I’m going to cover the seven warning signs of a vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 is an important vitamin involved in making DNA, myelin sheath, and red blood cells.

It’s important to know how to identify vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms because if you are deficient in vitamin B12, you could experience irreversible damage to your nervous system.

When you’re looking for a vitamin B12 supplement, there are two kinds, a natural version, and a synthetic version. Always take the natural version, which is called methylcobalamin. But, it’s really best to get vitamin B12 from the diet.

The main cause of a vitamin B12 deficiency is not a lack of vitamin B12 in the diet. It has to do with malabsorption—the person can’t absorb vitamin B12.

Conditions that can block the absorption of B12:
• Atrophy of the stomach
• Hydrochloric acid deficiency
• Gastritis
• Ulcers
• Celiac
• Chrohn’s disease
• Irritable bowel syndrome

Foods rich in vitamin B12:
• Animal liver and kidneys
• Clams (and other seafood)
• Sardines
• Beef
• Chicken
• Fish
• Fermented products (kimchi, sauerkraut, and fermented dairy)
• Insects
• Nutritional yeast (non-fortified)

7 warning signs of a vitamin B12 deficiency:
1. Pale skin
2. Constant fatigue
3. Mouth problems
4. Cognitive issues
5. Nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy)
6. Blurred vision
7. Fast pulse rate

I have never been so confused in my life and filled with negativity. I am 30 and this explains why I have been in so much depression, anxiety, having paranoia about ageing and death and constant cynicism towards everything around me. I also feel fatigued and have blurred vision. My B12 levels have dropped over the last few months. I just got my B12 reports and need to work on my levels. Thankyou

My aunt was diagnosed with epilepsy until some village doctor (in rural Serbia) told her to check her vitamin B12 level...there was no epilepsy in fact, just serious B12 and B vitamins deficiencies.
  • OMG... if you only knew how much you help people with these videos. I can't even imagine how rewarded you will be for helping this many people. God Bless You!

You are 100 percent correct. My brother in law was extremely low on vitamin B He developed neuropathy and his nerves shields where completely gone. His pain was so severe that we couldn’t even touch him he would scream from pain. Unfortunately he died form condition because his liver failed due to pain medicine long term use. Thanks for teaching public information that is crucial in the life.
  • Thanks for the shorter videos! I find it difficult, in most cases, to sit through the longer videos. Around 7 to 10 minutes seems to be ideal. Thanks again!

My B12 had gotten down to 67, its just by sheer luck that my doctor had it tested, i had been feeling most all these symptoms for years. Being that deficient gave me a Mortons Neuroma on my left foot which apparently is permanent. A B12 test should be absolutely mandatory after the age of 50.

My great grandfather died of pernicious anemia. Everyone said that he was just a depressed, lazy man when he was very sick. I learned different when I learned about MTHFR. I traced this genetic defect back to him.
  • I’m so thankful for your videos. You have helped me the last few weeks more than my constant virtual doctor appointments. My issues are just being put under the anxiety diagnosis and an antidepressant is prescribed.

Dr. Berg, you do a great service to us all. Thank you so much! Could you please share with us what vitamins (brand names) you take on a regular basis that would minimize the necessity of individual supplements? Thank you again! Keep up the great work!!

B12 is a really underrated vitamin for the heart, which I discovered approximately two years ago. It helps to prevent heart attacks.
  • I appreciate your videos so much Dr Berg, my health has drastically changed. I was 25 when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and I just couldn't understand why me so Young, getting worse and worse by every check up. Ever since last year when I bump into your channel and followed on your teachings, is like am dreaming my health is much better. My perception has changed about high blood pressure and so as my health. Can you please educate us about arthritis as well. Thank you so much. 🇿🇦
  • Thank you, this is a very complete video, with one caveat. In my experience in private Chinese Medicine practice, few conditions are irreversible as long as the patient lives. It takes time to heal damaged nerves, but nerves do heal with proper care. I use MFT to identify what the individual needs from week to week to address the patients' particular needs. Thus I have come to participate in the healing of incredibly complex vestibular conditions, migraines, neuritis, etc. That you have not seen it does not mean that it does not heal. I have seen it.

Thank you Dr Berg. I realise now that I must have absorption problems as you've named symptoms I experience with auto-immune. Thank you for getting this info out there, it will help a lot of people.
