This is Paul. Originally he is from the UK, but two and a half years ago he moved to Serbia. He left his well paid corporate job in London to open a small record shop in Belgarde. During our engaging conversation he shared with me how it feels to be a tea-loving Englishman in a coffee-drinking Serbia, why Serbia is more expensive than Britain and what makes Belgrade a better city for life than London.

  • Dear Russians, English, all peoples attempting to learn Serbian or any other language. Do not worry about mistakes! If people laugh, so what? It’s good to laugh 🤭 go on we love your ‘dobra dan’ 😍

I live in Slovakia. Prices in Lidl here for the same article are 30% to even 50% cheaper than in Serbia. On occasion I buy Serbian products in a small shop here that imports them. For example "Plazma" biscuits that are called "Lane" here are 10% cheaper than in Serbia. And the owner has to pay for transport and import tax to EU. People in Serbia are being robbed by the government and merchant lobby.

As a London family we took our teenagers to Belgrade and loved it, restaurants are so cheap and the quality was fresh and great, and yes, most people speak English.
  • Wow, Paul seems as such a terrific fella. Great to have him in Serbia.

I am Serb born and live here. Its not bad thing that we see many strangers from different countries coming here and wish to live here. Russians, Americans, Europians, Africans and others good people will be welcome to come here and live with us. Serbia can become and always will be sanctuary for everyone who truly wish to live here and respect others.

People like Serbia because the Serbs are the most welcoming and hospitable people i have ever encountered. In the west, the elephant in the room is loneliness and alienation

I have been in Serbia just three days. Very friendly and helpful people. Loads of people out at night enjoying themselves in the best way. My first impression is very positive. Novi Sad a very beautiful city. Off to Belgrade tomorrow.

and yes, in Sydney, Australia, we can buy a can of beans (400g) imported from Italy for around 75 to 95 c, in Belgrade, same can (also imported from Italy , or from Croatia) is like 5 times more! How come? Somebody is robbing people in Serbia.... Sad but true ! Same goes for many other products...

Crime in BG is not on the streets but in the government. But it is nice to see someone idealizing the new country and seeing the good parts. All of us people should move around more often and see the good in other countries and people <3
