The first year of Destiny 1 was the best gaming time of my life and is to this day. Nothing ever came close.

The nostalgia is so real and heavy. I really miss the community I found here. All the friends I made and the things we did. That's why it hurt when they vaulted everything: all the memories felt like they didn't care any more about them. Or us. I miss what we had
  • It's all about the art of destiny 1, the sound and visuals were so much more immersive. You just felt like you were in this huge world, the spaces felt so big, in some areas you could see what felt like miles away. Then with the different sounds you could hear, every time it felt like an adventure.
  • It had a darker, grittier look that I prefer. Some of those old strikes were amazing. And the music!! Oooooohhhhh were did it go?!

Two simple reasons why I'm comfortable keeping D1 installed and revisiting here and there. I can still play what I bought and there's a simple sense of progression via leveling and gearing up. That's all D2 needed to keep up with I feel.

I overall prefer the look of Destiny 1. D2 went too far with colors and saturation. D1 felt like it had a more focused intentional style/tone.

Firing up the console after work, and getting into Destiny 1 when I was single was my passion. That warm feeling of pure contentment I adored.

I never had any friends who played this game, so I was left completing raids every week with a group of strangers. At the time, I always wished I could share this experience with some of my friends IRL. Now I realize I was playing with friends all along, and people I would emphatically miss 8 years later. They welcomed me into their clan, carried me through challenging activities, and helped me acquire some of the rarest weapons in the game.
  • The grind for max light in year 2 destiny 1 was amazing. I remember playing regulary with 50+ friends i met online and getting 319 light from 318 light level when max was 320 did feel like an accomplishment. Didnt get that feeling at all in destiny 2. And i remember everyone playing trails every friday after school. Destiny the taking king was 100% best gaming experience ive ever had.

The first raid completion, VOG, that was something really special. I can still hear the cries of joy from my teammates when we finished our first raid. The first Gjallahorn loot or the icebreaker… the community was different, even if there were still the same types of toxic players we can have in D2.

Destiny 1 will forever hold a special place in my heart. Probably my favorite game of all the time due the the memories created throughout it's life span. I remember playing the beta over and over again and being immediately enthralled with the game. Love it.

I know exactly what you mean. I still have more hours on D1 than any other game since. Remember playing regularly until 3:00 AM with my fireteam. Memorable.

He is exactly right D1 had a completely different feel And mysterious I been looking for that feeling in D2 but I couldn't put my finger on it

Vanilla Destiny is still one of my best memories to this date. You said it best: the sense of the unknown, the sensation you got knowing you were discovering this huge new universe, alongside a wonderful community was just something else. You just had to be there. Thanks for uploading this!

For me D1 will forever be the true Destiny. D2 is technically better but all my greatest memories come from D1.
  • @jaredv5692
I was feeling nostalgic and redownloaded D1. Been playing through all the story missions and weekly strikes. Such a great game!
  • I didn’t play much of Destiny 1, but I spent a good amount of time in Destiny 2. To this day I still don’t understand how they haven’t added new enemy types since the Taken.
  • @CreeperJaYY
I’ve always felt like something was lost in translation in terms of visuals/art style when it jumped from D1 to D2. Gameplay and visual performance is superior in D2 for sure, but D1 has the better art style, encounter designs and the banger D1 soundtrack that Marty had more of a hand in. D2 does have good tracks, but I feel like they miss out in certain areas by not using more of the D1 soundtrack. I’ve been here since the alpha, so I’ll definitely be there until the end. Just wish Bungie could have kept the OG crew together and expanded more of the vision of Destiny.

Great times! I wonder how much longer Bungie will keep the lights on for Destiny 1. If they were going to port the game to PC or current-gen consoles, Bungie would've done that by now. We'll enjoy Destiny 1 for as long as we can while we can.

I think what stops d2 from being truly great is the recent monetization practices and making the "free to play" was a mistake. D2 as a live service is good however seasonal models could use a touch up and hopefully the "new" episodes are good
