Why did The Mongols Fail to Take Indonesia?

At the end of the 13th century, Kublai Khan had hopes of bringing more territories under the ascendancy of his empire, with Java being one of those aims. Thus, an envoy by the name of Meng-qi was sent to speak with the King of Singhasari in Java to negotiate the kingdom submitting itself to Mongolian authority and protection for the price of a tribute. This suggestion was tremendously ill-received by the king, Kertanagara, who lashed out at the messenger.

Indonesia is a land of vast forests and faithful and hardworking people. Greetings from Iran
  • As a Mongolian watching this, Great job Indonesia! Bad ass political maneuvers and plotting against a foreign invasion. Very respectable.

As an Asian person this is first time I heard that mongols even tried to take Indonesia 😂 to be fair they’re horse riders, why would they even want to sail to conquer far away islands

Majapahit empire have a smart strategy "guerilla warfare" in forest and mountain. Mongols fail in warfare, they came from desert land.

Majapahit was born after prince wijaya beating the mongol empire . In another words , Prince wijaya was deceiving Yuan dynasti army so he could overthrow Jayakathwang from his throne . **Fun fact : yuan dynasty always come home with empty handed everytime their army set sail to Conquering Any Medieval Kingdom In SEA

You miss an important detail that Raden Wijaya promising gold, girls, and alcohol for Mongol troops as much as they want as long as they are marching unarmed towards Trowulan. Knowing that "there will be a huge party" many mongols didn't even think to reject offer from Raden Wijaya and matching straight towards Trowulan, some of them didn't even asking their local commander, they just simply joining the other group.

One thing I really love about this channel is learning about military campaigns that I’ve never heard of before. 👍💪👊
  • TUMAPEL Now is SURABAYA city that philosophy is SURA (SHARK), BAYA ( CROCODILE ), SURA (SHARK) represents for Mongol arrived after sailing from sea, and BAYA ( CROCODILE) represents for Majapahit Army native Javanese, in Tumapel had big war between Mongol vs Java like SHARK 🦈 Vs CROCODILE 🐊 Duel, and in 1945 the history repeats itself big war between Indonesian army vs British army in same battlefield, and British General Mallaby killed. And every 10 November in Indonesia have INDONESIAN HEROES DAY COMMEMORATE.

there's 2 things that need correction and some informations in this video. 1stly, Majapahit Flag is little bit wrong. Their flag should be started with red line or red color not white as the video shows. This will be the reason why Indonesia flag is red and white. Their red and white flag is very connected to their name "Maja & Pahit". A Maja Fruit that Taste Bitter(Pahit), so they combine it and then voila. Majapahit was born(they really love to combine 2 words into one such as Nusantara word), Maja fruit is like a coconut fruit, the color is white and I forget why the taste is bitter, therefore they usually eat the fruit with Red Sugar or *Gula Aren(Gula Merah)*. That's why they were using Red & White Color as their flag, the flag name are many, but the very known one is *Umbul-Umbul Merah&Putih or translated to red & white pennants*. and 2ndly, Majapahit was born after Raden Wijaya succeed beat the Mongolians Troops. Yeah, I think that's all😁

The video made a minor spelling mistake in mentioning the name. The kingdom mentioned in the video should be Kediri, not Kendri. It was based from the city of Kediri, formerly called Daha (which is the capital later)

An envoy of the great Khan must be the worst job ever

Thankyou for your historical content, I watch Netflix Marco Polo and play AOE IV so any Mongol empire history and specially related to my country are surely interesting to learn.
  • @shakeelali20
Brilliant content as always! Factual and well animated but please use Google translate if you're not sure how to pronounce fairly well known mongol names. The first time you said "Mongke Khan" you were almost perfect. Then it just became Monkey and I really couldn't hold it together 😂😂😂
