I think Brendan Fraiser has gotten the closest to any actor at recapturing the Harrison Ford Han Solo/India Jones character's vibe. Competent when he needs to be hilariously unlucky when he's not. Also, The Mummy is the perfect mix of action, adventure and humor.

A bit of trivia: In the scene in the prison when Rick was being hanged. The apparatus holding onto Brendan Fraser failed and the rope was actually choking him. Fraser passed out and had to be revived. He came very close to actually dying on that set. But being the trooper he is, he got back up and finished the scene. One issue Brendan had in the aftermath of filming this trilogy, was having done his own stunts he ended up with bad back issues and had to undergo several surgeries to fix the issues. That left him unable to work for a goodly portion of the 2000s. Also he was sexually assaulted by a member of the voting board of the Golden Globes and blacklisted as he did call out the guy. After the Golden Globes were called on the carpet for their own conduct, Brendan Fraser was vindicated after he made his "Me Too" allegation public. In the aftermath of that, he was offered the role in Darren Aronofsky's "The Whale" and it was for that film he won the Best Actor in a Motion Picture Oscar. He is now very sought after and has stated he'd be willing to come back as Rick O'Connell.

This movie has aged extremely well. I’ve seen it multiple times and it’s always entertaining.

I got to meet Brendan Fraser at a con last year. I dressed up as Evie from the beginning of the movie, in the library. I also got to hear him yell, "Hey, Bennie! Looks to me like you're on the wrong side of the ri.ver!". It was a great day, and he is truly a kind-hearted and humble human being. Just absolutely lovely.

"Think of my children." "You dont have any children!!" "Someday I might..." - Benny was hilarious 😂😂😂

I’m 28. The amount of times I’ve watched this movie over the past 20 years is incredibly high. I’m glad Brendan Fraser is getting a revival and more roles in Hollywood too. He’s a great actor.

I had such a crush on Rachel in this movie. She was doing the "a-dorkable" thing before it was cool. This one is such a great mix of Hollywood's classic adventure movies given a modern flare. The most radical thing about it was the director's take on the mummy not just being a monster in bandages, but almost closer to a Dracula type. One of my faves, and Brendan Fraser's best for sure.
  • A moment of silence for Winston. His last words were, “here I come laddies.” Hero in life and death.

Whoever edits movies for these videos does an amazing job. They always get the essence and important moments of the film perfectly.

"He doesn't seem like a Rick." But he is loyal. He would never let you go, never give you up, or desert you...

Cassie's disbelieving "someone said my kids could watch this!" made me laugh pretty hard. Depends on the age of the kids of course, but you'd be surprised what kids can tolerate - they often think gross stuff is funny.

Perfect mixing between adventure, horror, action and comedy. ❤
  • @SouthPaw718
One of those movies that have the perfect balance of comedy, adventure, romance, and horror.

Evie's brother Jonathan, played by Scottish John Hannah, first came into the public eye in "Four Weddings and a Funeral". 100% guarantee you will love it. Brendan Frasier did come back, having just won an Oscar this year for "The Whale". He had been blacklisted after he claimed he'd been sexually assaulted by the former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Fraser was in another really fun movie in 1999, "Blast from the Past", which I also recommend. But I'll always remember him best from "George of the Jungle".

As others have said, the second one is really worth watching. It deepens the story, shows a ton of character development, and its got all the fun of ancient Egypt as well. I recommend!
  • This film had budget of 80 million and made 416 million plus. It was an absolute out of nowhere hit like The Matrix! 1999 was a landmark year for blockbuster films. Star Wars Episode 1 came out that year,as well.
  • @nottherocketman
This movie is so great. It walks the fine line between comedy, horror and adventure. Even now looking back on it, it's incredible just HOW good it is and how well it holds up.
  • @caffau
I never realised before, but watching this it struck me that it wasnt greed that got Benny. Evie stopped & was tempted by the book. Jonathan was tempted by the gold just like Benny. The difference was they got dragged away from the temptation... Benny didnt have anyone to drag him away. It was betraying his friends that got him.
  • Brendan Fraser really was the whole package in the late 90s to early 00s. He was tough in a masculine traditional way. You were convinced he could throw a punch and fight, but he was sensitive and his natural sweetness just pops through the screen. The Mummy is still great fun and it's held up basically 25 years later. Just an absolute classic.
