Pro-Russian deepfakes: Slovakia fears election interference | DW News

The threat is real, as Slovakia's experience shows. Unlike any other EU member state, the small country in central Europe has already witnessed the impact of deepfakes—clips in which people appear to be doing or saying things they never did.
In the capital of Bratislava, we meet a fact-checker tasked with debunking online disinformation and an investigative reporter who traced the origins of a widely circulated deepfake. And we hear from a senior former government official who warns that his home country has become ever more vulnerable to disinformation campaigns.

When we see how Russia can deeply subvert Germany or Spain, we can easily imagine how bad it must be in small Slovakia, which is linguistically close to Russia.

Russia has really targeted Slovakia and Czechia! This is VERY bad for all European Parliament elections! Besides both Czechia and Slovakia, Russia is targeting Germany extremely hard. I really hate to see former Soviet Bloc countries leaning right again and don’t think the people feel that way but. Russia is all too willing to assist friendly politicians in doing well and hopefully winning.
