"We trust Chucky more than the engine." "He resigned in an objectively drawn endgame."
  • @vezquex
We trust Ivanchuk more than the engine
  • @nedmerrill5705
Somebody once said that the absolutely worst move was to resign a won game (Larry Evans, I believe). This is almost as bad.
  • @Extremaduur
Growing up in the 80s I saw the young Ivanchuk play in the Junior European Chess Championship in my hometown Groningen in the Netherlands. The tournament was held over the Christmas break. Good times.
  • @curiouscat9
13:25 I anticipated Antonio would chuckle at the classic "e1 check" by Ivanchuk.:_agad:

Chucky giving the Lady respect for her crafty maneuvers
  • @turinhorse
So what did Spassky say about Ivanchuk?
  • Excellent endgame study. Intuitively I would have said that the two pieces and the passer would have been enough, but that goes to prove that rooks are really strong in the endgame, when there are so many open files and ranks.
  • I believe this is the second time you've shown Chucky resign in a draw position. It seems at this age he just says the hell with it, I'm not in the mood to play it out
  • @chocmonkeyz
At 3:34 why can’t black capture on b2 with the bishop? Yes you lose the knight but then you can grab the rook.

I'm really amazed at how much your English has improved in the time you've been presenting your chess channel. Have you had lessons or is it just practice?
  • @mikemartin5340
Ivanchuk simply loves chess. Does this dude play every single open tournament there is?
  • I’m not a GM by any measure, but I sometimes resign positions where I think I could work hard and get a draw. It’s just that drawing doesn’t feel any better than losing so putting in a ton of work for a draw seems pointless. I’m not playing in tournaments though, of course.
  • This game oscillated between obvious and some very subtle moves all the way to the end, fantastic achievement by Leya and Vasyl, kudos to Leya for the win! Thanks for this great analysis!
  • @odolany
3:23 after Bd2 at my level I would need a line to be shown explaining why Bb2 is not a good response from black. I understand it might alas be obvious to most viewers.

I've been enjoying your recent coverage of women in chess, the games have been interesting especially in the context of their success versus these asymmetrical ratings.
