This is the way cars should have their a/c system work its less complicated and can be repaired easily if needed. A major advantage is not needing to run engine to keep the a/c running. Also if they install a remote on/off for a/c this will cool down the car before you leave from work instead of going in a super hot car. This is a very awesome build, I've been looking for the most efficient a/c for my house that can be powered by solar - so far I think I will go with Midea U shape window a/c they are pretty much window a/c mini splits. I've also been doing research on how Tesla does their a/c work - they seem to use a heat pump - I'd be nice if they can sell them separately then I can figure out a way to install it on my non electric cars & run them also without the engine running. Keep up the awesome content Its cool to see upgrade builds.

Very nice. Might have to find out if I can fit one on the roof of my trailer. I already have solar on it so the split unit would definitely work, not sure about the roof one.

This is exactly what we have needed on a few projects. Thanks John and Keira! SUGGESTION : When you put the solar on top you lose the ability to put anything on the racks without covering them up, and risking potential damage to the panels loading/unloading. What if you made a lift similar to a pop-up camper so the panels can be raised and still maintain the ability to carry things below them? For most this next item might not matter, but the "lift" could be made to orient the angle of the panels to maximize the sun's rays. I haven't yet worked the bugs out of that idea yet, but think it could be done. Again, for most it might not be worth it, such as Keira's truck, but on a camper, rv, bus, etc it very well could; most especially if you "boondock". best part is it runs seperate to the vehicles electrical system and for hours, even if you broke down in the midday heat in summer you can stay cool all day, you know this design would save lives in really hot parts of the world, here when people break down in the outback they die from the heat, its horrible breaking down in 120f hundreds of miles from the closest shop and your out of water and zero traffic like maybe a car will pass you once a week, no phone signal etc.

I have a 14.5x14.5 hole in my fiberglass hightop where the max air fan is, I'd like to replace it with one of these. might it be possible considering the cutout is smaller? I was thinking maybe using sheet or thin plate metal, maybe even wood to correct the hole size outside and inside.

I guess this is working with good results during thd summer and with closed windows? Because there several ac. The experts here told me ghat i must put tubes,compressor e.t.c. Yours looks so simple. Did you test the heat mode? How many amp it use? Can you make a video to test it? Many people may interest to watch.

Hi John I hope you are feeling better! I have some questions about compressor cycle and noise. Can you explain a little more about how the unit works when approaching the thermostat set point? Does the compressor cycle on and off or instead somehow reduce the rpm by reducing DC voltage to the compressor motor? Also, does the fan automatically turn up and down when approaching the set point? I also wear hearing aids so the noise this unit produces by a decibel meter in the pickup at several fan settings would be very helpful to know, and also if the compressor makes a lot of noise when turning on. I have watched your three videos for the Outequip several times and it is hard to tell how the microphone plays a part in the noise level. Thanks again and good luck!

A lot cheaper than rebuilding the oem ac system. Gets pretty pricey for some models. Also means more room in the engine bay.
