Anything cartilage always has me concerned, hopefully Giannis can continue to be healthy.

Hey Doc, you think this issue could possibly be related to the Hyperextension he had to the same knee in the 2021 playoffs?

I saw the title of this video and immediately thought of Dwyane Wade and Lonzo Ball, both of whom weren't the same after meniscectomy on the knee. Wade was able to play after his knee surgery; hopefully Lonzo can return. There is life after their playing days, and at some point the quality of that life must come into question.

It still amazes me he didn’t suffer a serious knee injury when he hyperextended it in the playoffs that year….

I seen your tweet and agreed 100! After having multiple surgeries on my left knee, I can confirm there’s no such as a small or minor surgery

I had a cartilage cleanup surgery under my kneecap for a pothole of damaged cartilage. My knee would swell and I would get tightness and pain with long periods of standing or high impact cardio after the surgery. It wasn’t until I transitioned to low impact cardio, cycling, that the swelling and pain decreased. However, the pain and swelling was definitely an improvement post surgery vs. pre surgery.

Love the content doc. As a pre-med college student I love learning anything I can! Thank you

I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge about all of these sports related injuries. As an amateur athlete it’s really interesting to learn. Thanks doc 🙏🏻

When I was younger I asked my sports medicines doctor if I could get surgery for my knee that's been hurting me since my early 20s due to multiple injuries. And I was told "if you aren't making millions as a pro, don't get cleanup surgery because you're trading off your long term knee heath for short term performance. So unless it's for a living, the best thing is just to grin and bear it and keep playing amateur level basketball on your sore knee. You'll have much less pain in the long term. Surgery will only give you maybe 5 good years before you're worse off than before having it."

Amazing work Doc... I myself have cartilage defect on the central trochlea.... so I know that pain... but nothing really is a "small procedure" 🙏🏼🙏🏼
  • Whatever he sacrificed in the 2021 playoffs to get back healthy, after that knee hyperextension, and win that championship, i think it now wants its tribute :]...

Giannis has been slowly breaking down the last few years. He better develop a post game fast or a reliable jumper

Interesting video. I had a specialist recommend the same procedure in 2016 as i was getting a lot of knee pain. I decided to get a second opinion and the second specialist told me that a risk to me from an arthroscopy wasn't worth it. I ended up resting the knee for 8 months instead and then came back to sports injury and pain free for the next 4 years. Elite athletes though don't have the luxury of taking 8 months off.
  • Amazing doc, loves your YouTube channel. I myself have done this "small" surgery.
  • @GameTime-yj6qv
Well done as always doctor. Very informative. When I heard "routine" cleanup surgery on the knee I got concerned as well. Hopefully Giannis can have a long healthy career as he's a great talent and a great person.

Excellent video!!! Informative and entertaining. See you in the next one!!

I was scheduled for meniscectomy in January this year... my gut feeling was the same, if the doctor goes in there is to shave the meniscus as if it's not a big deal. After a break and cold plunges, the pain went away, I started training with elastic bands, recovered my knee muscles balance and then added cycling and rollerblading to train the knee from different angles. My problems went away with no surgery.
