Monsters at Work - Tylor Scares Ben (with Monsters Inc music)

Published 2024-05-16
What it says on the tin. Even though music wasn't really needed for this scene, as the silence and echoed cheering was enough to sell viewers on the disorientation of Tylor and his stance as a scarer, this is what they could have added to add more emotion to the scene - the music from when Sulley scares Boo in Monsters, Inc.

Now Tylor is getting that feeling of how it feels when a monster scares a child they've grown fond of like Sully with Boo.

It’s as Sulley told Tylor when he scared Boo, he didn’t like what he saw, what he saw in himself.

I just realized the music that played as Tylor came out of Ben’s room was the same music that played when Sully saw Boo’s terrified face on the monitors.

This is so sad that Tylor is one of the scariest monster to exist in a society that doesn't need scare power anymore...

This scene is what makes this season great, Tylor being right where Sully was, scaring a child so bad it made them cry, him then realising the damage he's done to someone who trusted him and called him friend, and ending with Tylor alone, heartbroken and ashamed of himself.
  • I honestly knew something like this would happen. It seemed like the only way for Tylor to give up his desire to become a scarer is to go threw what Sully went threw. Because I initially felt bad for him since he was clearly a talented scarer and would have been successful for it. But now I'm glad he went to work for Fear Co just to know what it's like to be a scarer and to regret it seeing it's not as good as he thought. Now he actually chose to give up scaring himself instead of being forced by the change of rules. This scene was perfect and I can't think of a better way to end his character arc.

1:02 That part of the song always brings tears in my eyes whenever I hear it...
  • Damn! This scene reminds me of how Sulley scared Boo and regrets it 😢

the use of "Boo's Coming Home' really solidifies that connection to Sully in how he hated scaring Boo
  • At that moment when Tylor scares a kid he knows with rage traumatized him. Sully was right from the start. This was never a great feeling.
  • The little "I thought we were friends... 😢" really got me. 💔 I guess I wasn't this sad with a scene in "Monsters" universe since Sulley scared Boo. 🥺

I noticed when Tylor left Ben’s room after scaring him, his vision started going weird, and it was all because he was feeling lots of regret and guilt for what he just did to a little kid who cared about him. Poor Ben and Tylor 😢💔
  • Poor Ben😢😢. Now I see that something similar happened to Tylor when Sully scared Boo (Mary) by accident. Like when he explained to her what happened to him with her.

God I really wish they reused this song for this scene, as it enhances the tragedy of the scene. As Tylor goes from scaring to realizing what he did, to instant regret and panic that he scared a kid he tried to make laugh before, and the ringing in his ears that distorted vision as he’s having what I can guess is a panic attack as he comes to the realization that this isn’t what he wants anymore. Also the lighting on Tylor slowly changing as he comes to his senses does help show us how he is feeling. Red being frustrated and angry, blue being regretful and panicked. Seriously this was a great scene and a good call back to how sully felt back in monsters inc when he accidentally scared boo.
