  • It’s strange to think Jimmy Fallon is in a better position than Conan. Conan is articulate, wildly intelligent and a true comedian. Jimmy has a fake laugh and can’t hold a candle to Conan.

The sketches were often more fun than the guests. Craziest show ever.

When most of the industry was suffering from the writers strike, conan found a way to make it the best time in his career and gave us classic characters from his crew

If Conan had a show where there weren’t any guests and he just went rogue for 30mins to an hour, I’d watch every episode.
  • supported the writers strike, shit all over nbc while hosting the tonight show, and becomes more "offensive" and less afraid of backlash as he's gained success. love conan as a host

Feel like he's been there for me my whole life. Through depression, sad teen years, happy drunk years, adulthood and now bored dad . He is the best ever. Silly and comedy genius.
  • @Guitarist500
This guy has been consistently funny for like 4 decades. What a legend

I know fans already know this but, for the 10%, back when NBC cut his show for Leno, his staff was basically laid off. Conan then for almost a year, paid his staff out of his own pocket, and then paid the staff that came with him to LA, their moving expenses, and living expenses until the show started and they're back on TBS payroll. This alone says a lot about Conan's character and relationship with his staff. Fallon, Kimmel, etc, may just be themselves and their staff, but Conan and his people are one. Thank you, Coco.

The writer's strike era of Conan was likely the best late night television ever. Dude is way funnier off the cuff than he is scripted. Jay Leno at that same time in every joke, was implying people were drunkards, drug users, sexually promiscuous, or made jokes/innuendo about female anatomy. While Jay proved his limited comedic abilities, Conan was proving his genius and redefining what late night television could be. It's kinda ironic that a guy riding a zipline through his audience night after night is more mature than the guy who cheated him out of a job, but that's the reality of things. I'd love to see a documentary on Conan and his handling of the writer's strike, a montage segment of Leno saying the same punchlines for different set ups would be hilarious in this context.

I now realize that the writers’ strike was the catalyst to many of Conan’s comedy bits that we still love today, particularly the ones behind the scenes with staff and Jordan Schlansky.
  • @SailingSeignior
Interestingly enough, the writers’ strike shows were his best ones. He truly blossomed when he only had himself to rely on.

Conan is my idol as a human being. I wish I could meet him. “Please do not be cynical. I hate cynicism – it's my least favorite quality, and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen.” ― Conan O'Brien

Conan has always been held back by late night writing. His stand alone travel shows and one offs, riffing with his staff like Sonia and Jordan are his most successful works. He was born to be a comedy sketch YouTuber not chained to a studio
  • As a kid I always thought Conan was one of the funniest people on TV. Now? I think he also is one of the most wholesome. The way he shines a light on and interacts with his staff is wonderful. He treats people like people and not cogs in the machine or just employees, which I've been realizing is the most anyone can do: treat everyone around you with dignity, respect, and pay attention to them. Great guy Conan!
  • Conan is a diamond in the rough. The best talk show host of all time. No one comes close to him. He was original, didn't follow his predecessors. Didn't rely on silly games to entertain his guest. Had a tight relationship with his staff. He is talented and funny. And being funny is rare for these talk show hosts.
  • @garensandler365
I think the reason Conan is so much better than the other hosts is that he makes himself look like a maniac, while other late night hosts like Fallon, Kimmel, and Cordon try to make themselves look cool. Conan makes his guests feel comfortable and doesn't make them play stupid games. Conan O'Brien is hilarious and the greatest of his time.
  • I think the most interesting thing to me is that this Harvard grad who wrote for one of the most famous sitcoms in the history of television somehow has never lost his sort of “man of the people” worldview and style. Like I think it was Paul Simon who said the more famous you get, the harder it is to write songs people can relate to, since you’ve become more disconnected from the masses. But somehow, with everything that should distance him from his audience and even his staff, he seems to just…get it, I guess. He’s the one in a million celebrity who really keeps it real and stays true to who they are. And I think that’s really inspiring.
