If only I realized then when I was in my twenties how great he really was. It's amazing seeing all these interviews of him a different Richard Nixon .He always had something positive to say about other politicians even if he didn't agree. Not like politics now!!!
  • Nixon is undoubtedly one of the most underrated Presidents of all time!

My President Nixon should have never resigned; he was a patriot through and through

...plus the most intelligent and most skilled in foreign policy.

Nixon was smart and crafty (albeit somewhat rattled because Liberals hated him intensely); plus, he was always a loyal Republican. Fwiw: Trumpaswamy 2024 would work for me.

Decades ago I read his book "The Real War". Published 54 years ago and still a relevant and accurate diagnosis of China, with a no nonsense strategy for dealing with it. The book had impressed me on how smart he was. Underrated and underappreciated president.

I agree, President Nixon was brilliant geo-political mastermind!
  • I know this is an uncommon thing in the US, but Nixon is the kind of person who in an African country would have been a President for 20 years. After a long time in power, one might have grown tired and weary of the same leader but 1 or 2 years after he is gone, there would be so much to remark about the things he pushed forward during his time in leadership and how life has become drastically different as a result. As a Zimbabwean, one has not shied away from occasionally ranting about how bad our former President was, but, even in the lack of exciting and glitzy projects shaking the nation, he does have one great legacy and the kind you will see repeat itself in many African countries - the education system was an equaliser that allowed the determined student living deep in the rural areas to go out and shine at a global stage and change their whole community. All the people from here we see in South Africa and the UK where a lot of us are based only got there because of his educational system. I see Nixon as that kind of a person, except with a lot more to celebrate than our leaders here in Africa. He probably is as iconic as Margaret Thatcher, but a much more critical version who still sought to bring the power to the people and not to big non-governmental & anti-people organisations like we have today.

I admit I didn’t know how great Nixon was until many years later when I “grew up” and away from liberalism. Nixon was a good man and also a great president, but was caught up with, as is oftentimes typical, some low-life’s surrounding him. This does happen with other presidents as well. Sad.
