  • Most radios to get the antenna nut off the Volume Knob has the Key to remove it just take volume knob off and use it to take the antenna nut off works for 90 percent of all Baofeng and Quesheng radios as well as some wouxun and tyt and kenwood ones as well as tidradios hope it helps in the future 0:40 @Ham Radio DX

It's crazy opening up an old handheld CB and seeing how complex and dense it is with full size caps, trims, and inductors with a singular transistor on the heatsink. Then seeing a modern $20 and seeing how thin it is, but all the same components in SMD format, and a frew SoCs to simplify it even further.
  • @nickbeez4862
You can use the volume knob to unscrew the antenna nut.

I can imagine there is a few people messing with filters and such, If it could be modded into ten meter that would be cool.

Based on package and components around it, I believe the AN26 is a crystal.

A tool to remove the sma connector nuts? The bottom of the volume knob of a Baofeng uv5r believe it or not! Pop the little knob off and turn it over. Thank me later lol

Yes, A spanner for this is called a castellated nut spanner. I can't find one spall enough, so I printed one. The smallest one I could find was for a motorcycle clutch! Tanks for the teardown: it encouraged me to go find out why my Tx/Rx LED wasn't working. I apprear to have lost the little diffuser lens.

@HamRadioDX i always wanted to make a sleek pocket radio with a UV-K5, 1. shave the thumb guard around the VOL knob. it just extra plastic, 2. find a smaller VOL knob. 3. use the "bullet" antenna from Diamond Antenna called the RH3, or alternatively the SRH -805S . both are nearly 1" long. That's it. Now you have a radio that fits entirely in a shirt pocket. Or into your pants pocket.

Interesting! Thank you posting this (and for sacrificing the unit!).. Happy NY mate.

The volume knob is the tool wink
  • @alessandroconcas
hi, yess there are a tool to remove sma with a tube lug with 2 pin, about 2 $ on alix or 3 bucks on radiotty
  • 0:58 thin wall 6 point harbor freight socket or nut driver and if the wall is still to thick 😳grind it down or lathe it thinner if so equipped ☺

Awesome super cool video! Totally rad, screen may have broken some, but it did power up and can still somewhat be used lol
  • @DonzLockz
It opens the same as the K5, no waterproof gasket either. My K5 didnt work properly as the kb silicon wasnt seated properly. I didnt take photos but im sure its identical. Its never good when ya knobs blow off!😊
  • @m7trsradio
Hi mate. The bottom of vol knob of the uv5r is the spanner to tighten or undo the antenna nut. Not sure if thats the same as your radio. Try the uv5r vol knob of the radio. 👍🏽🤙🏽 Happy new year and 73😊
  • You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs and occasionally a radio must be sacrificed for the greater good! 🤣
