Most cars and trucks have tiny contaminants embedded in their paint’s clear coat and a regular car wash will not remove those. Those contaminants can include dirt, grime, brake dust, rail dust, industrial pollution, paint overspray, tree sap and more.

A clay bar will gently pull and lift the bonded contaminants off the surface and leaves the paintwork feeling smooth like glass, ready for polishing or the application of a wax or sealant.

These days, we use synthetic clay media, which isn’t as abrasive as traditional automotive clay, to decontaminate your car’s paint safely and quickly. Synthetic clay lasts much longer, you don’t have to throw it away if you drop it. Just rinse, and reuse. And it’s much gentler on the surface, as it doesn’t contain any abrasives, so less chances of marring the paint’s surface when claying using a synthetic perforated clay media.

The time and effort you put into producing these videos is very much appreciated, Pan thank you 🙏
  • @neilwalker5041
This video was informative and worth watching again. I have been using the DIY perforated synthetic decontamination towel for a year and wow does it work. Only once did I have to bring out the Rag Company clay bar for a heavily contaminated vehicle. A fun fact about the DIY iron remover is how well it cleans too. On a job once I was on the platform ladder and noticed heavy contamination where the windshield and glass meet as this had not been cleaned in over ten years. I did not want to get down the ladder so I sprayed DIY iron remover into a detail brush and this instantly cleaned the heavily contaminated paint. Ceramic Gloss used with the clay n seal along with DIY rinseless wash is money. I do like the smaller clay mitt from the Rag Company for cleaning the glass on the interior side and I need to pick one up. Thank you for another cutting edge video Pan!
  • @mikev1766
EXTREEEMLEY informative; thank you! I was taught how to clay bar almost over a decade ago by my uncle (but didn't know about micro-marring from it till much much later). Saw some of these coming out recently...but was stuck in my ways a bit (also b/c had a fresh clay bar in package still). This video has converted me for next year when I clay my car and the family car; these just sound like the best of most.
  • @lindavent9490
I've been waiting for this topic to be covered in detail. I'm not comfortable using a clay bar and wasn't sure about using a clay mitt or towel, or which one's to use. This has clarified things, so thank you Pan.
  • I use the clay and seal method in my shop all the time using beadmaker and a clay mitt. Pan's advice on the mitt in terms of speed is spot on. You can go a lot faster and not sacrifice the quality of the outcome.
  • @jimwhalen6769
Pan, thanks for the great information! I will be getting the DIY clay towel to use on my vehicles. I purchased the traditional clay bars and tried it in an inconspicuous area and messed it up. So I did not clay bar my truck. I had to get the buffer out to correct the spot! I really do value you and appreciate all the awesome information you give us. I am not a professional and only work on my personal vehicles. I just like them done right. I have tried several detailers, but was never satisfied with their work! My wife says no one cleans a car like it do! I tell her “You have to watch Pan! He is WAY better than I am!” 😎 keep up the great work and stay safe!
  • Excellent breakdown and explanation of all these new perforated clay towels and how they can be used. Most comprehensive video I’ve seen so far on this topic. Lots of good tips. I’ve become a big fan of using the new Rag Company clay blocks and towel with DIY iron remover as per this video. Works amazing and huge time saver. Haven’t tried clay & seal yet so will try that next. Once Carzilla gets the DIY towel in stock I’ll for sure be purchasing.
  • @guygorney3231
Very helpful and timely for me. One thing I found out the hard way is do not machine wash a synthetic clay product. Even using microfiber friendly cleaning products, the clay gets destroyed. Rinse and air dry only!
  • @Ecdetails
Awesome video sir, only time I use the clay bar is for overspray remover when the towels aren’t as aggressive enough. Appreciate ya going through all of it
  • @nomad509
I wish I would have thought about the folding method when I first got my UCT. I recently picked up the scrubber back in June when was visiting TRC and absolutely love it but you definitely have a point, the towel is still a crucial tool for those hard to reach spots because of the flexibility.
  • @Archeagle
super video. La decon 2 in 1 est une belle technique. J'avais un pré-sentiment que ca allait venir ce video hihi. bonne fin de semaine!
  • @edmondmartin9004
Pan, This is really impressive advancement on the synthetic side of car detailing. Certainly a time saver and especially when used on a ceramic coating...Look forward to trying this out..
  • @nicholosk7280
Yasou Pan, Thank you for another great video! I have a 2014 Chevy Malibu which has Never been decontaminated. I did the “plastic baggie “ test and it feels like sandpaper after I washed it. I started using P&S Absolute rinse less car wash after watching your videos along with the laser cut sponge, etc. I am confused about which DIY products to use with the DIY clay towel and have the following questions: 1. Which is the order to use the DIY products - do I use the DIY Iron Remover first and/or instead of or I do I use the DIY Ceramic Gloss? 2. What is the difference between the DIY Quick Beads vs the DIY Ceramic Gloss? 3. Would it be possible if you do a demonstration on these products? I learn so much watching you and explaining your expertise “tips and tricks!” Thank you, NIKOS
  • @jngtruong
Thank you for the detail explanation. I like the last part of the video where you mentioned about claying and sealing. This would really help motivate me to take care of my car and not feel bad spending hours away from my family.
  • After watching your last video, Diy Detail is my new go to range of products. Thanks for all the advice from the UK 👍
  • @wulver810
Just in time, I need this for my brand new car. I wasn't sure how good this product would be, but if I avoid scratching it... it's a win. I still had unopened clay but I can use that on my old junker.
  • @danc9440
Fantastic video. Thanks so much, again, for all of your expertise!!
  • @Philatron
I find the clay bar and the towel hard to grab, Ive drop them many times... and the autobfiber clay towel broke on me twice. I will try the mitt or the bigger foldable towel for better handling.
  • @ajitpatel9106
I'm watching this video from London UK. Another absolutely fantastic video. More of these videos PLEASE.
