  • I can see him turning into an evil villain in a Batman series.. something is not right…

I don't think Lex is cut out for conversations where difficult questions need to be asked. He breezed through the open source to for-profit conversation. Didn't push back on Sam's false equivalency of comparing the old NASA guys criticism of SpaceX to OpenAI's situation and worse when Sam asked if he should open source GPT-4 said no because he "knows the people there", just a few minutes after saying absolute power corrupts absolutely! Tbh this whole convo was frustrating to watch as I was hoping to hear Sam's response to people criticizing his transition to for-profit. But now I don't know if he just doesn't have a good answer to that question or if we just weren't able to hear it.

Lex, you should start getting tough on your guests. Don't afraid to get piss them off. As long as it's a fair question to ask.

OpenAI was originally founded to democratize AI. Sam Altman said he feared a world where the most powerful AI was concentrated in the hands of a few dictators, even if they were benevolent. Sam altman said he would not want to live in that kind of world. That was in 2016. 2023 Sam Altman has become everything is 2016 self feared. OpenAI's technologies and ChatGPT are exclusively hosted on Azure and controlled by Microsoft. The technology has no chance at being democratized. All the power has been concentrated into the hands of a few "benevolent" dictators.

I'm getting strong Zuckerberg vibes from this one.

Someone who uses the word empathy as much as he does makes me question his ability to feel empathy

1:25 Elon didn't go to the pioneers in space, start a non-profit with them with a specific mission in mind, and then betray that mission. This is an incorrect analogy, and you get no sympathy from me, Sam.
  • I don't trust anyone that talks with a vocal fry nearly exclusively
  • @eastwood451
Sams vocal fry makes Kim Kardashian sound like an opera singer. Hurts the ears and the soul
  • It's absolutely insane how Lex started asking this and let him avoid the question entirely then agreed that "Elon big jerk". Then started on about Love and Rainbows. Is lex really entirely unaware that he was being handled the whole time? How about bringing up the HUNDREED MILLION DOLLARS that Elon gave him as a non-profit, then flipped that on its head when sam got a taste of the power and money. Might be a better question for a CEO that's about to burn down the economy than "tell me about love and utopia, let's forget about the insanely sketchy shit around this."
  • Hey aliens, if there was ever a time to jump in and intervene, this would be it.

What about the "open source" aspect of the company? I believe that is the Microsoft 10 billion dollar Question. You do not get 10 Billion without some type of return. I bet MS created a NDA contract agreement to not release tech details from GPT-4 and on. As you can see, they release APIs for ONLY ChatGPT to make it look like they are transparent. They may not release "FREE" APIs for GPT-4.

I don't think the SpaceX analogy was relevant at all, I would have expected Lex to push back at least slightly. I feel like the main point is that the advancement of AI shouldn't be pursued due to profit but due to the possible benefit for humanity. This was the original mission when Elon donated the 100m and it has now seemingly changed, yet we got NO answers to why. I don't mind the models not being open source, they are already too powerful to distribute without moderation, but optimizing for profits is worrying. I truly love you Lex, but I feel in times like this we need you to stand stronger, not just asking questions but pushing for answers.
  • @HankMeyer
    He's not a jerk on Twitter. He's a critic.
  • @Jacckh
Listening to this guy talk, I think I understand the heartbreak Elon must be feeling.
  • @cozy1717
I'm trying to take this guy seriously but it's a struggle.
