Imagine you want to be the best player in Sweden, but there’s this super strong player ahead of you that is never going to quit. And it’s your mom.

Thumbnail of Pia with red, glowing eyes cracks me up. Her chess power is great, but she's so soft-spoken and kind.

Mom in '86: dear, tell me some special words I'll remember forever Dad in '86: mmmm what about the variation against K-H3 in the closed Sicilian?
  • @ChickenViaEgg
Your mom not only is still playing chess but in the chess Olympiad AND clocking IM's out in 9 moves? What a powerhouse 🙌
  • The pride you have in your mom is simply heart warming. Really enjoying your videos.

GM's - resign with almost all pieces on the board because they can see 10 moves into the future. Me - keeps fighting until only my King and 3 pawns are left.

I love how much Anna loves her parents, its too sweet.
  • Impressive. I can't believe your mom remembered a line from 1986. I also can't believe that her opponent blundered even after thinking for 13 whole minutes
  • @DDHDTV
The fact the she remembered what your dad said in 1986 about a Nh3 closed Sicilian line is just mind boggling
  • About early wins, this reminds me when I was a student, our school was invited to a tournament. There were 20 teams of 4 in total. Our first match was against a very strong team (the guy on the first board was rated above 2300...). I was playing at the third board and next to me was a player who we had to find at last minute since one of our players wasn't able to play that week-end. Before the game, he asked for a trap and the guy of the second board showed him an opening trick that ends with a smothered mate. So we start the games - these were rapid games with 20 minutes and no increment - and after 2 minutes I heard "Mate!" on my left. I looked at the board and I saw the exact position of the trap! That completely changed the entire match since our opponents started to panick. A few minutes later, I played c6, forking a bishop and a rook. My opponent tried to save the rook and my next move was not cxb7 but c7, TRAPPING THE QUEEN on her original square! 2-0. We finally won by 4-0 a match we should have lost by the same score.

I dig these recaps. The "inside chess" stories are interesting. Props to your mom. I can't remember what I had for breakfast let alone what someone said to me in the 80s.

And here's me... Someone who only knows the barebones of chess, doesn't follow chess and doesn't know he got onto watching your chess videos, thinking "Wow, nine moves!? That must have been a quick game!" And then hearing that those nine moves was a forty minute game.

wow more of these videos please, its great to hear the analysis of the games and why the players are moving as they do
  • @CoachFrikki
You beat me with this system at a park stream in NY a few weeks ago. Now I see where you learned it from haha - e5 is definitely best way to play w/ black against the closed Sicilian.
  • Props on respectfully avoiding to mention the opponent´s name. Class move. Anyone can blunder and i would want my opponents to be that respectful if i was on the losing side of that game. (I know it shows in the video, before someone mentions it)

Wow, what a great move and a great game your mom had. Great job on your moms part remembering the advice of your dad from so long ago too. Thanks for adding those little details, that’s what makes following you so fun.
  • It's amazing that Anna can teach chess and make people's day at the same time.
  • @TEKRific
What a wonderful tribute to your mother Anna, especially after round 4. Thanks for the analysis and good luck and much success in your future games in the olympiad! Full fart framåt! Vámonos!
