Complete scenic drive on Sky Island Scenic Byway through Coronado National Forest up to Mount Lemmon in Arizona. We begin in Tucson, Arizona and climb up to 8,000+ feet in elevation to Summerhaven, Arizona, stopping and enjoying the views at the scenic overlooks along the way. After we reach the end of the road we turn around and head back down to Tucson.

Sky Island Scenic Byway is also known as the Catalina Highway, the Mount Lemmon Scenic Byway, and the General Hitchcock Highway. This drive was made in late-March.

  • Outstanding! In 1987 I was fortunate enough to be able to take this same journey while I was stationed at Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson. The movie 'The Wraith' was also filmed in and around Tucson including some scenes on this road. Charlie Sheen was the lead Actor along with Randy Quaid.
  • Kind of strange to see so many different languages in the comments of a video showing my hometown. I’m just glad people are appreciating the beauty! Greetings from Tucson.
  • The trip down the mountain seems more fascinating than the trip up, because the granitic rimrock pinnacles and hoodoos are more obvious. Going both directions, if one has a sharp eye, you can even pick out a couple of little natural bridges! And it looked like you could even tack on a half hour, using roughly 15 minutes each end, going through suburban Tuscon outskirts, to contrast this most sinuous climb, that jumps through many different watersheds. And, this has to be the thickest bunch of Saguaro "forests" that you've shown us yet.
  • Mysteries. Mental relief for city dwellers. Wide and quiet mountains. Should be seen in largest screens.
  • Your the only road trippers that have side cameras and stop to film scenic overlooks. Good work

Love just the sound of the road, I dont need any silly music playing. Love minimal skipping ahead. Love not having to deal with some wanna be's commentary or mug. In my opinion you have it just right, maybe a three D version so We could be fully immersed.
  • Oh my, you folks at AED . . . NEVER, EVER seem to run out of these gems to show us! This countryside very much reminds me of the early '60's Kirk Douglas/Gena Rowlands movie, "Lonely are the Brave". Very similar shooting sites. It's a movie about an old-school cowboy asserting his independence in a very modern world of which he has no understanding. Building to the film's climax, he climbs with his horse through near vertical gorges to a subalpine ridge which skirts the US/Mexico border. It, too is very much a Sky Island Range. I know, I've only virtually explored via Google Street Views, a stretch of US-191 that has a lot of similarity to this stretch. It's in extreme Southeast Central Arizona fairly close to the New Mexico border. It starts at the Morenci Open Pit Copper Mine, I believe one of the hugest open pits on this planet. With your portable camera rigs, you may be able to capture for us, this colossal man-made hole in the earth at select turnouts. It goes thence 80+or- miles to Alpine, Arizona, at elevations up to 9K'. I've yet to view much past SE of Alpine, but you yourselves may find some interesting scenery as you dive deeper into this region of New Mexico. Please, by all means, do consider adding this treat to your offerings of epic videos.

I love your videos so much.... and now even more, because you are stopping and actually getting out of the vehicle and filming! Thank you!
  • Yet another excellent road trip video. It was way back in 1993 that I drove up that road. What makes me so appreciative of your videos is that I can relive those journeys of mine of so long ago. And they make me aware of how much I've completely forgotten about those drives. I actually went past the Ski Resort and up to the gate of the Observatory. On that same trip, I later went and visited the Aircraft Museum at Tucson. Or perhaps it was after this drive. Yes, so long ago, and so much forgotten. Once again, thank you for producing these videos. From NSW Australia. ✔
  • 와.정상에 나무도 많아. Wow . top of mountain has so many tree..

I did this drive in November of 22. It's awesome. Starts with saguaro cactus and 75 degrees. Ends with Alpine forest, snow on the ground, ski lifts and 35 degrees.😂. Love this stuff.
  • رحله على الطريق السريع بالمركبة انها جميله 💐🐲🐿🙏🏻

I've never heard of the road before now. Quite the scenic drive. Thanks!

Great video but you missed the best part! Right before Summerhaven you could have taken the road to the right and seen the Ski lift and that is where bicyclists start their last gasp of air to make it to the top at Steward Observatory 9,157 Elevation, that 2 mile climb is tough, someone walking would be going faster than you biking :) There are old Motorola towers at the observatory that you can spot at your video's 55.52 minute marker. Thanks for you video, I loved it...
