NFL's Greatest Games - 1983 NFC Championship - 49ers at Redskins - Enhanced - 1080p

This is another Greatest Games program which I don't believe was ever offered for sale by NFL Films. I got this copy from Hulu back in 2011. Upscaled to 1080p and sharpened it using Topaz and adjusted minor color and contrast with Resolve

  • NFL FACT: The 1983 NFC Championship is the only conference title game that the 49ers lost in the 80's
  • only good thing i can say about this game is it made the 49ers so mad that it drove them to win it all next season.not having dqight clark really hurt the niners on offense.
  • A truly underrated classic. The 49ers played the NFC's best throughout the decade of the 80s. What a great era. I miss the 80s. Go 49ers! Thank you Dave. You continue to spoil us true students of the game.

The 49ers got hosed by those refs! Those were two of the worst pass-interference calls in NFL history on that last Redskins drive! Those zebras should've been fired immediately after the game!

In the final years of John Riggins' playing for the Redskins, John Madden mentioned in his radio show that Riggins was generally so battered after the games that it would take a day or two of bed rest before Riggins felt up to moving around to prep for the upcoming Sunday game. That five minute radio segment Madden did was on San Francisco's KSFO, San Francisco, in the morning hours with radio host Gene Nelson.

The only postseason matchup between Bill Walsh and Joe Gibbs

As a lifelong 49ers fan, I was so happy to see the Redskins get their ass kicked by Jim Plunkett, Marcus Allen and the Raiders two weeks later.

I remember this game…. Those calls against the 49ers late in the game reminded me of the 1976 AFC playoff game between Oakland and New England. I very young at that time and remember people being pissed off lol.

Had the 49ers pulled this one out, I’m not sure how they would’ve done against the Raiders, but it would’ve been a much better Super Bowl.

Having the greatest NFL broadcasting duo of pat summerall and John Madden
  • Raiders fan here, Bill Walsh was one of the best coaches I've seen and Montana is the GOAT QB.

I was 11 when this game occurred. All I remember was that the 49ers came back and were hosed on an interference call.

6:55 I played in HS with #55, Carl Ekern. +43 in turnovers.... good lord.... Ronnie Lott was obviously a real hitter but so was Dwight Hicks, the FS. Only Joe Theismann could say with a straight face that his team was the greatest in NFL history after losing the SB 38-9.... Joe Gibbs is very modest. He was a hell of an offensive coach. He and his staff invented the Single Back offense to deal with Lawrence Taylor. As a young HS coach I worked at Freddie Solomon's camp. Freddie was a hell of a human being and the kids loved him. I must say that the two PI calls..... horrible.... Two excellent teams going at it. Thanks very much for posting this!
