Goodbye Kel Tec P17, ,Not Going To Miss It

Published 2024-05-31
The problems continued with my Kel Tec P17.No matter what ammo I tried,or how many times I cleaned it,,it wouldn't function properly. So I let it go.

I have the exact same P17. Put about 300 rounds through mine with various ammo types, and zero issues. I bought the red dot slide and enjoy that too. In many ways it is not as good as the Taurus and Walther options, but dang it weighs nothing! Even with a kydex holster and a couple extra full mags in a pack, you don't notice the weight - it's crazy light, I had a 2nd gen sub2k and put a bazillion rounds through that and even with my lame attempts to pimp it out had had zero issues. Have a KSG that I love and the only issue I have with that is a version of short shucking, You have to work the action like you mean business. Had a PMR and sold it, because I got a CMR, Zero issues with either of those. Only thing I have had issues with on Kel Tecs is my P32. Every once and a while I have gotten the dreaded .32 ACP rim lock, which pretty much disables the firearm. With the P32, I suspect the rim lock may have very well been my loading technique, So maybe I'm just lucky, but I have not really had issues with Kel Tec firearms personally. I enjoy Kel Tec's innovation, but I understand that they are not for everyone. Love your videos Mark, please keep 'em coming , Sorry your P17 did not work out for you,

There are lemons at times. I have had several the most were Taurus. That's why I only have 2 a TX22 and 865 revolver. It's a bummer my P17 has been great and Buffalo has had one that's been good. Just the way it goes it sucks though

Did the same thing with a Taurus spectrum 380 several years ago. Got what I could out of it then took the girls out to Red Lobster. Did not miss the gun one bit. Lol.
  • I don't blame you. The very first gun I ever owned, a Christmas gift from my parents, was a Marlin Model 81TS that would repeatedly jam. My father sent it in to be fixed, and their solution to the problem was a violation of the Marlin Safety Code. So he returned it, got his money back, and then he and I looked at other .22's together. Ultimately we liked a Winchester 9422 that is a joy to shoot.

That sucks , it's sounds like a lemon. It happens in everything, got bearings the one time to set up a rear end and they weren't the correct diameter, all the ones were off. Went somewhere else and got the right diameter , same brand

Traded mine in at the lgs. No regrets.

I have an old Charter Arms AR-7 that is as equally unreliable as the P17. CCI Stingers was the only thing that was promising regarding performance and even then it was maybe only 60% of the time. Everything else was a jammomatic like every other round.

Was looking at those but they ain’t right for suppressed, with the PSA deals on the Taurus it’s hard to beat $219 and a 3 mag rebate!

  • Man I would've give $150 for it. 🤷🤷. I got one and it's a 17 round TACK DRIVER !!!!
  • Your buddy "knows" how to fix the issue's. He's gonna get a new pistol for $75.
  • I enjoy your videos very much. Too bad about the Kel Tec I've never owned a Kel Tec.
  • Since hi point is an upgrade to kel tech, what is the point...................
