Disney’s been on a rollercoaster lately, announcing grand theme park projects only to quietly cancel them months or even years later. Over the last ten years, we’ve counted over a dozen projects suffering this fate.

Honestly when it comes to Disney my attitude is "I'll believe it when I see it."

Disney doesn't announce things to keep fans happy, they announce things to trick investors to raise the stock prices.

It seems like this video should have been shown to Mr. Iger during his AI question time during the share holders meeting.

COGSWORTH: Well, there's the usual things...barstools, E-tickets...promises you don't intend to keep...

In terms of recent lost announcements, the overhaul to Spaceship Earth is the biggest. It’s the centerpiece attraction for the whole identity of the park, and it’s been neglected and fallen into disarray.

I would be okay with a South American land but I don't understand the need to jam so much IP into it. Asia and Africa have very little IP in it so South America should be the same.
  • I still want to know what the /point/ of Galactic Star Cruiser was. A niche, hyper-expensive 'experience' that doesn't absorb crowds from the Parks OR really draw new people to begin with? Was that it? It makes me think of the $200K Swarovski crystal Cinderella Castles you'll see one of in a few Magic Kingdom gift shops, except like. The actual size of Cinderella Castle.

Probably didn't help when a bunch of imaginers quit a few years ago. I don't think Disney takes any of their competition very seriously, but Epic Universe is looking amazing. I know my next trip to Florida will be for Universal and Disney will be the side park.

First time I ever sw the teacup art; thats wild

They just need to stop announcing project 5 years before they open. Universal has it right, even when all the details have leaked they don't officially announce projects until at least a year before opening . This means the excitement is fresh, whereas when Disney announces a ride the hype has died and mostly turned into people moaning their old outdated ride is going (ala mission break out, or tianas adventure)

They need to bring back the Mary Poppins ride and refurbish Spaceship Earth
  • They need Imagineers running things again. More attractions and less rooms.

@Reviewtyme, Tron took longer to build than Tokyo DisneySeas did. Not a debate, a Fact

To my knowledge there is no other themepark behaves like Disney. Announcing stuff only to cancel it feels a bit insulting. It implies that the average Disney themepark fan is satisfied from mere announcements. The worst part is that it seems that Disney is punching below its weightclass. Disney themeparks are the most attended and one of the most expensive parks worldwide. Furthermore they have one the most loyal fanbase ever. But Disney seems to be neglecting their parks and sees their customer as walking wallets.

"Attraction future", that's a line that'll ring a bell for Disneyland Paris fans. There is this 1992 park map of Euro Disneyland by Sam MC Kim and Stev Cargile. On it we've got the following "future attractions"... - The Little Mermaid attraction - Beauty and the Beast attraction - Discovery Mountain complex - Indiana Jones temple complex Of these four only two only partially became reality... - Discovery Mountain: only the rollercoaster Space Mountain and the Nautilus walkthrough happened, Journey to Centre of the Earth and the Nautilus restaurant did not - Indiana Jones temple: the dark ride did not happen nor the envisioned rollercoaster, but a initially temporary smaller rollercoaster was build called Temple of Peril (sibling of Tokyo's Raging Spirits), which currently is on its last legs.

A bar top on legs—I had never heard that before, but I wish they kept it. It did look cool.
  • I think universal has watched disneys problems and essentially learned what not to do. For me with how expensive it is to go to Disney and see nothing but under construction for years it turns people off from wanting to go.
  • @MoiveGuy24
I wish they would’ve built the really cool festival center with the three different levels and then the rooftop garden that would’ve been cooler than what they put there now which looks awful. Also wish they would’ve built the Mary Poppins section, still hoping they do eventually, I heard the idea got shelved for now, every time they have D23 they always tease us with all this concept art and telling us they could do this, but they should really be saying we are gonna do this like we are going to build this

Disney just stop announcing anything at all. Take a note from Universal.
