The Incredibles vs Incredibles 2 Animation Differences

For some, a big gap in between The Incredibles and The Incredibles 2 may have been slightly irritating, however the space in between the two films gave creators the time to reevaluate the appearance of the film and its characters—and that’s exactly what they did.

Brad Bird, the creator and director of the Incredibles movies, has been a gold mine for Disney Pixar studios since 2004. That’s why when Disney decided to go ahead with The Incredibles 2 fourteen years later, its large budget—and advanced technology of course—allowed for animation changes that’ll blow your mind.

From changing Dash’s and Mr.Incredibles face completely, to adding in more details into scenes that existed in both films, watching scenes from these movies side by side is earth shattering–kind of like the Undermines Attack.

Even Edna Mode got not only an appearance change, but a home makeover as well. However, the best part may be getting to see more of Jack Jack, his demon form, and how that animation changed the dynamic of the Incredibles family and the entire film franchise.

What do you think of the animation differences between the two films? Do you think they were drastic or done naturally given all the improvements in technology? • Did you catch any of them? Which of the two films did you like more?
  • @reon5747
Something I noticed right away is that the tone of 2 looked a lot less gloomy than 1
  • Not gonna lie, Tony looks so much better in the sequel compared to the first!

When will people learn that animation is not the same thing as character models and/or character design? Animation is the way models move, not the way they look. The models are done separately by character artists, not animators

I would've loved to see Syndrome with the newer animation we have. He'd look awesome
  • @MidnightEden
Honestly I think the second movie was able to improve and stay faithful to the first one at the same time ☺️

I kinda prefer the older animation to be honest because of how good it still looks to this day and it gives off nostalgia and childhood vibes, like I really love how the new movie looks and you can definitely see the improvement :).
  • More saturated colors, more shading and depth, Brighter and more Modern feel to everything. All in all, I was stoked when I heard this hit theaters, then saw it on Disney+ and loved it. I watched the first one just before, for nostalgic purposes, and the sequel Totally held up. There were some oddball Plot-Holes, but I figured it’s an amazing story with the Incredibles family and it stays fairly true to the original comedic energy from the first film, with its own twist.
  • The animation from the original still holds up really well and still remains my favorite pixar film to this day

The only changes I didn't like were these: 1. Dash's super speed seems to be a little slower despite it being smoother. In the first movie, you could vaguely see him while running showing how fast he was. 2. Helen seems younger and less middle aged. In the first movie, her character model made her seem a little more like a mother. 3. Jack Jack's body language made him seem more like a 5 year old in an infant's body and less like a real infant. It's a little difficult to explain, but just things I've noticed. 🤷

If we could have the first movie (poses, scenes, dialogue) with the visual improvements of the second one, that would have been great.

The animation improved, but the sequel, not so much according to fans. (Well, I think it’s a great sequel, and I loved it)

Thank you for putting your time into finding most similar frames. I was watching cinema wins right now and decided to compare both parts and here you are with your fresh video) Like it was published just for me)

I know a lot of people like the more saturated colors of the 2nd one because we've all been conditioned to be drawn towards brighter and more vibrant colors by a lot of the CGI movies that came after Incredibles 1, but the more subdued colors of the first one were a storytelling choice to make the super exploits look a bit more grounded and to also juxtapose the ordinariness of their civilian lives with their superheroics on Syndrome's island lair which was super lush and vibrant. With the increased color saturation of the 2nd one, a lot of that visual journey of the 1st isn't present.
  • I love how they kept the same style and the characters all look the same but they still improved the animation and made it visually appealing
  • @aguy2181
i hope you guys know that this doesnt mean that the original looks bad
  • @lumenardens
what had me the most impressed was Frozone's powers. the ice looked so damn real in the second movie 😮
