If you would like to witness one of the best endgames ever played, you are in for some luck! 5-time World Champion Vishy Anand (Ganges Grandmasters) sat opposite another 5-time World Champion Magnus Carlsen (SG Alpine Warriors) at the 7th round of the Global Chess League 2023. The game was a slow strategic battle with both sides maneuvring in the first half of the game. Then Magnus realized that he had to win in order to let his team have any chances to beat his opposing team. And so he sacrificed a pawn. The game then went into a knight vs bishop endgame that was so sharp and complex that very few grandmasters could make sense of what was going on. With themes like domination, underpromotion, stalemate and much more, this is an endgame worth visiting and revisiting many many times in your life! Check out this battle along with the commentary of IM Sagar Shah and enjoy.

  • @amitavadas2628
Can’t imagine another former WC to play at this level at 50 plus age ever. Vishy - salute to your longevity.
  • @arunverma6516
I must say there were three legends. Two on the board and one who is off the board commentate and covering this beautiful game for us..
  • I always like it when greats like Magnus and Vishy spend some time discussing the game after its completion rather than leaving the table straight away.
  • @Pneuma3339
It’s funny how Vishy looks at Magnus at the end of the game like “why did you do this to me? Why?” 😂 And Magnus shrugs like “not sure really…I’m Magnus that’s all I know”
  • No matter how much I support Vishy, Carlsen always finds a way to beat him. But both played so nicely. And Sagar Shah's commentry adds to the excitement.

Carlsen just casually summoning his viking powers to beat a legend what a badass

This is the first time I watched a full chess game without skipping a second. And the reason behind is the commentary, hats off what a legendary commentary it was 🔥( obviously match was also good )

The smile at the end was eternally satisfying. It shows how much they're involved in this game and their mutual respect for each other.
  • @ShivDhudh
Magnus literally said "Call an ambulance, but not for me" with that Knight promotion
  • @rishik1471
That smile in the end game. That mutual respect. Moments like these ❤
  • @ajinkyababar6072
Both players had a chance to draw the game, but they fought for a win.Ultimately the promotion to knight was the move of the decade
  • Anand is very much to chess like Waldner is to table tennis. Both managed to stay absolutely world class players for so many decades often seeing generations of other world class players both come and go. Anand and Waldner are both truly the evergreens in their respective sports.

I've been playing chess with so much hate lately and now I think I found my love for it again. Seeing these two smile and Magnus finding that underpromotion. I thought it would work before he played it but my brain couldn't calculate why. What an amazing game.
