As a Palestinian, I have family who are both Christian and Muslim. Our mix is a mess of Mediterranean Peoples, Arab Nomads and Religions. Actually, in the 21st century, it turns out we are HUMAN BEINGS just like everyone else. Who knew?
  • @UnknownWarriorZz
My friend who thought he was 100% Palestinian came up 97% Greek in a DNA test. Interestingly, I am Greek and had Egyptian, Turkish, and Jordanian in my DNA test and only came up like 30 % Greek when I’m supposedly 75%.

I hated Bible study as a kid, but this is fascinating! Who knew that in order for me to enjoy learning about Bible stuff all you had to do was add an archeological aspect to the mix?
  • @ramaalazzeh7382
I am Palestinian and i have 4 percent dna from Cyprus and 2 percent Sardinia rest of my dna is levant

This is what I love: a historical perspective about Palestinians. No hate, not even in comments just historical information. Great! As a history teacher I highly recommend ❤

The fact is that saying "only a sling shot is a big misrepresentation as the slingshot is a deadly weapon and one doesn't need to get close to an opponent to kill them. They were widely used even by the persian army

Ariella Oppenheim at the Hadassah Institute in Jerusalem has done a great deal of research on the DNA of the present dwellers in the Holy Land. Her findings confirm the fact that the Israelis and the Palestinians are the next of kin. This knowledge has been codified in a book "Brother Shall Not Lift Up Sword Against Brother" by Tsvi Jekhorin Misinai. I highly recommend it.

What total fun! Students always dream of having a professor like this. Would want to go to his class 💯‼️

Thank you, sir. I have a nodding acquaintance with this history. The whole situation in that part of the world saddens me and angers me, as I'm sure it does any non Jew and non Muslim. Most of them as well. It should never have come about. Anyone of European descent who hates a Semitic Muslim is an anti-Semite, just as anyone is who hates a Jew. As usual we have political leaders and those who aspire to power who have created this mess. Of course with help from others who are prone to fear and hate. And we have 75 or so years of pain and hate as a result. I seem to remember Teddy Koleck, (I/m pretty sure that was his name) who was for a time Mayor of Jerusalem, advocating a joint Administration for the city. Here is a city holy to three religions. History is what is past. Some things done cannot be undone. It's a reactionary pipe dream that you can go back to what was before. Cherish what was. Sorrow over the past debacles, the wars, the genocides. But move on.

I was amazed yesterday watching a documentary about the Middle East conflict on another channel. They had an interview with a modern Palestinian who was speaking (presumably) Arabic. What amazed me was that every time he said the word "Palestine" he pronounced it "Philistine"!!! This was a total moment of revelation for me - much like the day, long ago now, when I instantly realized in a sudden flash of insight that the famous "Cossacks" were actually "Kazakhs"!!

Wow! So much amazing historical, biblical, and genetic information to explain. I am 6 decades old, so do know some but your lecture, presentation, and facts truly clear up so much for me. This is just one segment of history but very important to understanding past and current events of the region and impact to the world. Thank you so much.
  • my research led me to believe that the 'sea peoples' were actually the remnants of the Greek and Trojan armies after the Trojan War... some Greeks got lost, some went on raiding, and Troy was utterly destroyed , their people were dispersed
  • @j4dedflow3r25
If you've lived on the Eastern side of the Med you'll understand those people are not Arabs (at least not in the Western mindset which seems to be more of a conflation with Bedouin nomadic groups); they've been genetically influenced by the various empires and multiple Crusades but the rest of the Arab world have always been reluctant to give any meaningful assistance to Palestinians and really the rest of the Levant. After the destruction of the temple in Roman times it wasn't as if the land emptied out and no Jews were left in Palestine, those people stayed and most likely converted under duress to whatever religion was in power at the time; the last empire in control for hundreds of years was Muslim. Until recently, at least %10 of Palestinians were Christian. I'd also like to point out if we're going to use the Bible/Torah as proof of one group's ownership of the land then only that %10 would stay. Multiple times the Biblical narrative is one not of blood lineage but of belief (Ruth was a Moabite, for just one example of ancient ethnic mixing) and spiritual practice, which goes to explain the prevalence of Canaanite DNA. The Biblical history is also one of Jews being repeatedly kicked out of Canaan for religious disobedience till they were instructed they wouldn't be allowed to occupy in peace under the same governmental structure till the return of the Mashiach. Well, it hasn't been peaceful truly for any considerable stretch of time in recorded history. I'm suspicious of the so called Ashkenazim gene being found in a group that has been gone from the geographical area for almost two thousand years and has supposedly survived all the mixing in of new converts whilst running all over Europe, including the expanse of Russia and the Caucasus region. It's become too politicized for everyone to assume DNA tests are %100 accurate when this issue is involved and it should also be pointed out that recently it was reported DNA testing companies were headed overwhelmingly by Jews. I could care less about that in general but it does place an unwanted spin on a study that seemed meant to be used as a right of land conquest and currently, an apparent right to genocide. Consider how the study claimed Lebanon %90 Canaanite and 90 miles south it becomes %50. Hmm, puts a suspicious light on Netanyahu's latest threats to Lebanon. What an unnecessary boondoggle the modern state has provided us, under the current laws of Aliyah immigration a Japanese convert has more rights than an ethnic group inhabiting the land 3,500 hundred continuous years. The Israeli government likes to knee-jerk the "right to exist" mantra at any circumstance of criticism unaware it has become a "doth protest too much" cliche`. The land has never not had a people in this time frame and indeed the unattributed quote to Zionist ambitions in the 19th Century was, "the bride is beautiful, but she is married to another man". I'd like to know exactly when the Leviathan gas field was discovered, the classified one not the published date.
  • The word Palestine comes from the word Philistine. The Philistines originally migrated from the Greek isles into Caanan (promised land to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) They were not Semitic or Arab. They disappeared as a culture and people in 600BC during the reign of King Solomon. The people who claim to be Palestinian(Philistine) today are actually Jordanian Arabs. The ancient hatred for Israel goes back to the Abrahamic covenant. The blessing went to Issac, not Ishmael. Psalm 83
  • I love all the research & effort put into lecture . I don’t mind the Tennessee accent . I live in Tennessee born in Alabama .

I'm Greek and very interested in the late-bronze-age collapse. My very own avatar is a Cretan figurine that certainly looks like a Peleset from Egyptian artwork. But I'm really sceptical about some aspects of the analysis. For instance, Greek burrial customs didn't include mouth-guards, but rather full face mascs. And cremation was very common, in contrast with Philistine burrials, where the bodies were laid entire. Also, the inlet photo in 30:36 is not from Philistine. The central piece is a recognizable crown found in the Dead-Sea, and many of the others are wands, scepters and pommels probably attached to wooden scepters or clubs. None of these items seems to be a mouth-guard. There is a widespread acceptance that Philistines were indeed the Peleshet. And the word Peleset does have a superficial connection with Pelasgoi, or Pylos, or Phaistos and other Greek names. But the link of the Peleset with the Achaians is far from established, appart from some scarce linguistic and art referances. There is a huge linguistic gap between the names and toponyms of late bronze/early iron age Cannaan (such as Goliath and Gath for instance) and what we read in linear b script (the palatial scripture of the Achaians which is a recognlzable form of early Greek). Linear b was syllabic, therefore single-syllable toponyms such as Gath or Dan would be highly improbable. On the contrary, it seems that the Greeks rather tended to add furhter syllables! As an example, the disciphered refference to "slave women from To-ro-ja" may actually reffer to Troy (Troia in Greek, Truassa in Luvian). The notion of "origin" in general (in early historiography), is tricky. As a relativelly recent example, historians of the 18th century AD, were saying that "pirates originated from Martinique" while we now know for a fact that they initially came from allover the globe, gathered and organised themselves in Martinique and used it as their initial base. Speaking about sea-peoples we tend to forget how cosmopolitan late-bronze age was! Sea-people stronghold was probably Cyprus (Alassiya in Egyptian). Therefore, the given origin of Crete (Capthor) is certainly older, the question is how much older. It's one thing to mean that Peleset came from Caphtor to Alassiya, and another one to mean that they literally originated in Capthor. It is even possible that the Peleset were a group of revolted slave-tribes from the Aegean (much like how the Israelites identify themselves in Exodus), but they don't appear to be Greek-speaking. And we cannot say otherwise without written evidence of the actual ancient Philistine language, yet to be found.
