Y'all had a great haul! But even more glad that y'all made it back and safe. Brought back a lot of my own fishing on Erie memories with my dad.

You guys did very VERY well. I took my family up there and the weather immediately went in the toilet. Seas got rough, we didn't catch sh*t and everyone got seasick.

That's hardly a "nightmare" situation lol. Captains run those boats day in and day out and petty things like that happen very frequently it's just nature of the beast. You'd know if it was a real nightmare situation and those are bound to happen sometimes too on Lake Erie. The captain seemed to put you on good fishing and was very hands on quick to net and keep the vibe going. He did his job in my opinion
  • Most captains have a first mate. Who is in charge of setup netting baiting and in some cases helps bring in a full bag. That captain needs a helping hand.
  • Man I’m sorry to hear you guys had to experience on this trip. When things go bad up there sometimes they go bad real fast and just keep getting worse. We all have those days those. And if your any kind of fisherman you’ve had your share of them. Having a Captain that’s not a nice character doesn’t help things at all and only adds to all the BS your already experiencing. Fortunately there are many very nice, and very accommodating Charters, and Captains in charge of them that operate on Lake Erie. Don’t let this one fool you because 90% of them that operate on these waters are top notch outfits. I’ve been going up to Lake Erie with my own boat, friends and family members plus I’ve Chartered a trip every single year for almost the past 40 years of my life and I’ve only ever had maybe two or three not so nice or friendly Captains in all those years. Hope your next trip out and all after are outstanding. Now go get them limits!! 👍👍👍

It’s absolutely unreal that he stayed on those small walleye and sheepshead for so long.. 5 or 6 come over the rail it’s time to move

Good on you for your class and professionalism Matt! My uncle was a charter boat captain and I first mated for him for about 5 years! Not friendly is putting it mildly! He was a @$#! If you plan another trip up there in the future I can refer you to a guy way more relaxed and fun!!
  • Lol. Ive had to do this on Lake O one of first trips ever. Got out with the charter guys and other guy forgot to pull the bow line in. Had me by my ankles head first in the water. Cleared it and caught some kings. Its cold but do what you gotta to get in

Day 1 seemed dreamy with lots of action but then Day 2 hit.. Awesome the way your crew pulled together to salvage some good catches. Charter captains are definitely not all equal but live and learn. We've got a buddy We've fished smallies with since 1995. Our first trip could have tanked our relationship with my brother and me showing up 20 minutes late. Way before Google maps "We've got plenty of time for breakfast first", nope. We took the jabs about punctuality and burning good fishing time. Humility carried the day, now he calls or texts when a hot bite is on.
  • Looked like there was a nice walleye chop on Erie those days. I can't imagine trying to troll with that many people on board. I have been on charters that the captain didn't feel it was his job to teach or assist. The charters were a lot more fun and productive when the captain was engaged and helpful. There is a certain feel you develop for a hit drifting. Once you have it, the fishing gets easy. The water has cleared up so much in the last 40 years. Amazing. Thanks for sharing.

Those are some huge drum! I would have been so confused with that trolling apparatus. 😂

So what i got out of this is...dont use Wild Wings Charters.

I'm sure it's a tough job being a charter boat captain. At least you got fish. We went up there in the mid '90's with our Lyman. We went all the way out to South Bass Island. We left from the Portage River. Just looking at it in your video, it's a long way out there! I didn't realize how far we went out at the time. I measured it to be around 11 miles from the Portage River. It got rough on us. I'd say 4-6, at least. If not bigger, because no one was out. I mean no one, on a late Sunday afternoon in August. It took sooooo long to get back. I see boats like the one you were on all the time in Erie. Sea something? It looks like you didn't have too bad of a time!

Tiny fish the captain should try to find you some bigger ones.

That charter was bullshit , most private charter booked way in advance will use planers and dipsy divers. They use reels with line counters to target the depth the fish are feeding at. I can go on a walk on Charter and drift all day with bait provided for $75 a seat. That private probably cost $650-700.
